Unemployed Face Benefit Sanctions If Bad Weather Prevents Them From Getting To Jobcentres

A Freedom of Information Request (FOI) by Plaid Cymru has discovered that jobseekers could face benefit sanctions if bad weather (including snow) prevents them from attending a Jobcentre appointment.

Plaid Cymru asked the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) whether exemptions would apply to the policy of applying benefit sanctions against unemployed people who fail to attend Jobcentre appointments due to poor weather conditions (such as snow), or other unforeseen circumstances.

And if the virtually useless job centre staff can’t won’t get in will they be sanctioned? Very unlikely. Unfair unjust and typical of this Fascist government.

This government is certainly near-Fascist, that’s for sure.

And if the staff don’t make it in, then even if you do make it there you will be sanctioned for failing to sign on. Can see it happening.

Can also see someone dying of exposure while trying to walk in when there are no buses.

I’ll say it again, the majority of the population couldn’t give a toss, there lies the problem, once again, at my local retail park, there were queues of cars on their way in and out, stocking up with all sorts of things, then going home to watch Benefits Street thinking “They’re all like that aren’t they, these on the dole”
What a load of sheep people are.

Back in 2011,I was unemployed. That winter was particularly cold and when the snow arrived, people were being advised not to travel. On my signing day, a member of the JobCentre staff phoned me to tell me not to even attempt to make my way in – They would automatically re-sign me until my next appointment.
my JSA was paid as normal and i was able to sign on two weeks later.
What a difference 3 years makes- not for the better!
