I completely agree. It is a sham and to be honest, I’d say it was illegal.
This damned excuse for a government want the unemployment figures fiddled in any way that they can and don’t care one iota what it is doing to the people of the country!
I agree it’s illegal, because the UK Ratified the International Covenant on Economic, Social & Cultural Rights, on the 20th May 1976. So it legally “entered into force for the United Kingdom on the 20th Aug 1976”.
Its Article 6 contains the “right to work” including the right to “gain his living by work which he freely chooses or accepts”, with a condition place upon all States that they “will take appropriate steps to safeguard this right”.
But no UK Government, nor any others in Capitalist States, so far as I know, have even acknowledged these rights. Indeed although the USA ‘signed the Covenants’, they haven’t ‘ratified’ this one at all.
However, that in itself violates Article 5 of the 2 Covenants which were aimed at finalizing The International Bill of Human Rights and making it ‘legally binding throughout the world, I believe.
