Tories accused of kidnapping dementia sufferer to vote for them in Newark

It seems Conservative Party representatives have lowered themselves as far as kidnapping the bewildered in order to get votes.

The following was passed on to Vox Political by a person who wishes to remain anonymous, apparently after seeing it in a Daily Mirror comment column. I’ve edited it a bit for grammar and spelling:

“Just want all the people of Newark to know exactly what they voted for regarding the Conservative win recently.

“My 89-year-old nan, who suffers from dementia, who requires three visits from carers per day as she can’t remember how to cook, wash clothes or take her own medication (lacking in basic life skills), last Thursday evening was approached by a Conservative associate who knocked on her door.

“If you had a five-minute conversation with this lady it would not take much intelligence to work out the fact that she’s not only vulnerable but her mind is elsewhere! The man who knocked on her door was caught by her carers escorting her to his own vehicle with the intention of escorting her to vote.

“Fortunately her carer arrived at exactly the same time, who informed said man that not only should my nan not be getting into a stranger’s vehicle, but that she also suffers with dementia.

“So worried was her carer that she even attempted to block the car he had smuggled the lady into – she positioned her own car so this male was most definitely blocked in.

“However this man then reversed, to exit the street with the old lady inside – kidnapped.

“The carer subsequently rang family members and the police who are at present doing their investigations. The most worrying thing is, due to the lady’s mental health, this man could have been anyone.

“But for goodness’ sake, how low will Conservatives stoop to get one extra vote? The mind boggles.”

If this is true, what does it say about the despicable attitude of the Conservative Party – and right-wing politicians generally – to the elderly, sick and disabled?

They try to put these people into early graves – and have the arrogance to demand that their victims vote for them.

It has been suggested that, here in Brecon and Radnorshire, carers ignore the wishes of their patients and vote Liberal Democrat. Is this why Roger Williams’ seat has been so secure for the last 13 years? Not for me to say…

Dear God in Heaven! even for those bastards this is beyond the pale surely? tho to be honest it’s so bizarre it really doesn’t sound like something someone would just make up does it? I mean how warped would you have to be to…I mean you..nah, I’ve got nothing. I don’t doubt your veracity for a second Mike but before I post this, is there any verifiable evidence to back it up? Or has the comments you refer to been deleted? Man, The press is having a red letter day today. have you seen the front cover of the Scottish Sunday Express? ‘I’ll pass it to you if you like. It’s just unbelievable, even for a cynic like me, and It’s got me absolutely raging!

    You “think”!?
How about a link to substantiate the story?

      Okay – I know.
It’s on The Mirror’s Facebook page, the thread headed “The wife of rising Labour MP Simon Danczuk is making a name for herself on social media in her own unique way.”
The person wanted to be anonymous but it seems the Mirror has ignored that.

If this is true, then the Tories really have sunk to spectacularly new levels. Just when you thought there was absolutely no further they could sink, they manage to go one step further and demonstrate a complete absence of any kind of morals. The mind boggles at just what kind of criminal atrocity they will commit next.

Just in case anyone was thinking that being the lesser of two evils doesn’t mean still being pretty f***ing evil.

This shouldn’t really surprise anyone though. It was always a standing joke with the Tories, that they’d carry some 100-year old vegetable to the polls through driving rain if they thought there was a vote in it for them.

The Mirror may have chosen to disregard the anonymity request, but the Spotted : Newark FB page has the same story with a respect for the anonymity request.

Here’s the post at Spotted : Newark for those that wish to read it first hand.

Despite the Mirror’s lack of regard for privacy, I will respect the person’s anonymity and won’t post that link.

I was not aware of Spotted: Newark so I didn’t have the option.

  7. Dementia sufferers are amongst those suffering welfare reform, unless this lady is rich in her own right and that is why she voted Tory.

You can suffer Dementia at any age, not just a great age.

What Dementia does is lose recent memory but remember youth. Show them a picture of yourself young and they remember who you are.

The point here is, are Dementia sufferers denied the right to vote?

Taking the disabled, sick, very elderly to a polling station is what all political parties do, but it might have helped to be registered for postal voting.

The carers could have asked for ID and escorted the lady to give her the right to vote.

      You’re missing the point.
This person was kidnapping the dementia sufferer – taking her away without authority to do so – and it is not known whether they would have let that person vote for whoever she wanted, or whether they would have insisted that she vote Conservative.
That situation is unacceptable, and indeed the law forbids it.

The poll clerks wouldn’t have let the activist in the voting booth with her. There wouldn’t have been any problem with her vote, albeit she probably thought she was voting for that nice Mr. Attlee, and helping the elderly and disabled to the polling station is a normal political party thing to do. Taking the obviously demented against the wishes of their carers, though? I’m going to go with stupidity, here, as the most likely explanation. They’ve got some shockingly dense people working for them, the tories.

If this is true, then the Tories are pretty low, and all this for one extra vote that they didn’t in fact need anyway.

Dear God, what the hell is this country coming to? As for the conservative associate, he should be damn well done for kidnap of a vulnerable person. Jeez!

Nothing the Conservatives do surprises me these days. Had they done that to my mother, who also has dementia, I think my brother would have probably shot the b*****d. Thankfully we only have to suffer them for another 12 months then they are out.

Strange how this hasn’t made a single newspaper. Not even local rags are reporting it. I smell bullshit.

If proven to be true then this will make major headline news across the mainstream media and he will surely be facing a long time in prison.

    • Mike Sivier June 9, 2014 at 8:20 am - Reply

That depends on whether the Tory-owned mainstream media want to hush it up or not.

So some Tory sh**e HAS found a use for a disabled person. It won’t last, they will just move on to using the records of ESA deceased from the DWP to forge postal votes, etc. (should I say allegedly there or something………?)
