Hysterical reaction to David Ward tweet amounts to an attempt to stifle free speech

The Israel/Palestine question seems determined to be asked on Vox Political so I might as well give in and get on with it. Here’s a good article to reblog as a starting-point.

The Israeli Ambassador to the UK wrote to Nick Clegg imploring him…to silence his member of Israel would punish the UK as the dogs they are ?

      I don’t understand what you’re saying there.

To put this into context, David Ward has a tiny electoral majority going into a general election which may see a complete disappearance of all Lib Dem MPs as a species.
His local electorate is around 25 per cent ethnic minority. His statements are clearly designed to appeal to his local electorate and it seems his own party recognise this.
The more adverse publicity he attracts from the Board of Deputies, the more likely it is he will hold on to his seat. Quite clever strategy, really.
Having explained the calculation behind the strategy, I should also add that I believe his statements chime-in with his own personally-held beliefs on the matter.
    Win-win for David !!!!

I think the number of demonstrators in London at the weekend is fairly indicative of the sense of outrage felt by most British voters. Didn’t notice any pro-Israel “support”. If Britain was being blockaded by a foreign power I suspect that most residents would want to change that state of affairs. There is a small chink of humour in all this: at the weekend the Lib Dems were talking of forming another coalition after the next general election.

Here is a good place to start. We can go around and around in circles justifying the historical perspective and this or that view but at the end of the day the civilians in an open-air prison camp, lacking the basic necessities of life are being constantly bombed from land, sea and air with no bomb shelters or anywhere to go as casualties of babies, toddlers, children, women and children mount.
This is the reality and the slaughter has to stop.
