BBC sees no alternative to cuts – alittleecon

Last Updated: November 30, 2014By

The BBC have a story today on their website called “Will the public accept the cuts to come?” writes Alex Little.

The first sentence is “Whoever wins the election, more cuts are on their way.” Cuts are inevitable, end of discussion. The article then goes on to list all the areas of public spending that could be under threat, and whether the public will stand for what’s coming.

While it’s certainly true that all the main parties agree they need to “balance the budget”, and think they need to cut spending by roughly the same amount in order to do so… whether we actually need to balance the budget or to achieve this through cuts to expenditure is far from a settled question.

The BBC can argue it is being impartial by saying that all parties agree cuts are coming [but] by unquestioningly accepting the need for cuts, it’s not really providing readers with a complete picture.

They are yet again ignoreing the Green party, who I believe is not talking about cuts, but is talking about a lot more tax on the rich and tightening any laws allowing tax evasion, are the Green party not one of “all parties” obviously not in the BBC’s view.

    Of course we need cuts!

Cuts to the vast extravagance of many Tory and perhaps a few other party MPs, in their expense claims and allowances. Tax exiles should be exiled, and exiled permanently, from their means of cheating. The entire Banking section should be properly investigated and cheating officials gaoled as would a shop-lifter be gaoled. Greedy landlords should be controlled by a fair rent and contract control or face losing their properties.

We need cuts to the cuts in benefit assistance to those who are entitled to them and a return to a dignified society rather than a greedy self-interested Tory-led nightmare.

I so agree with you Rupert and truly wish it would happen.

Yes, yes, yes! In my own company my managers, and up the ladder are receiving substantial pay raises while those at the bottom get pay and hour cuts…. the greed is everywhere. We have indeed lost our dignity, and fair society to the most vulnerable.

As the BBC have ignored most of the other parties for the last 4+ years, and have ignored the different protests and marches by the people, as well as thousands of deaths, suicides, hunger, illness, disabled, food banks, to name just a few things, I’d like to know why any cuts are to do with them. After all, it’s not like they’ve got much interest in anything except fawning to the Tories and criticizing everything and everyone else.

I am so disgusted with the BBC and their blatant Tory support, which is Un democratic and (don’t want to swear here but those are the only words that come to mind)….. This particular article wants to feed into those people who have given up hope of a better government. So maybe the issue is about fair distribution of the money that shares out the cuts higher up the ladder to begin with and a Iceland action mentioned by the next post wildswimmerpete – investigate and end the cheating by the leaders….

“The entire Banking section should be properly investigated and cheating officials gaoled as would a shop-lifter be gaoled.” As they did in Iceland ;-)
