Privatisation: people v politicians – We Own It

Here’s a great site, flagged up by our good friend, the angry Yorkshireman at Another Angry Voice.

It’s an interactive graph showing the differences between public opinion and the policies of the different (main) political parties. The example above shows UKIP’s performance (not very good, is it?) but if you visit the site you can see visual accounts of all parties’ performance, based on opinion polls (for the public) and party literature.

The graph is on the We Own It site. Please bookmark it and use it when you consider how to vote next year.

There’s votes there to be snapped up by Labour with a few public announcements of intent to privatise.

Beats me why they don’t just do it and reap the rewards. Fear of the press and that Red Ed bilge?

You mean intent to renationalise, don’t you?

        Oh, yeah. Sorry. It’s late.

BTW, on the subject, I just discovered tonight that the company who supplies my home dialysis equipment, Baxter Healthcare, is also part of a private health lobbying group and funded a shindig at a recent Conservative Party conference.
Now this might be coincidence but it was announced this week that dialysis commissioning no longer, as of next year, ging to be NHS wide but left to the new CCGs which is the makings of a postcode lottery, IMO.

Do you reckon Baxter healthcare might make money from this change..?

          Do you think?
I was going to say “it’s late” in my last comment, as a reason for the mix-up. Great minds…

I feel like I’m being used as a rigged experiment for Tory ‘privatise everything’ dogma and it’s making me antsy. If my grudge against the Conservatives wasn’t already very personal, it is now. Just five minutes in a room with IBS, Cameron, Giddy and Clegg and a hickory stick… They’d be getting letters from Atos shortly after :-)

UKIP do marginally better than the Tories on that policy site, interesting for such obvious bedfellows. Mind you, read the UKIP manifesto and it looks like a parroting of public opinion, no firm commitments to carry them through – after all, the precedent has been set now by both the Cons and Dems thoroughly tearing up their manifesto pledges from 2010, so why should ANY party be expected to carry out such promises…. :(
