Prank caller gets through to David Cameron

"I've been speaking to @BarackObama about the situation in Ukraine. We are united in condemnation of Russia's actions."

In fact, the call was taken on a mobile phone. Cameron’s expression looks about right, though.

A hoax caller managed to persuade Downing Street to put him through to David Cameron, according to the BBC.

He claimed to be Robert Hannigan, director of government monitoring agency GCHQ.

We can only speculate about the details of the call which, we are told, was “quite brief”.

What was said to the comedy prime minister in those few brief moments?

Did the prankster tell him to stop playing Angry Birds and do some work?

Did he warn Mr Cameron that planned new snooping laws will mean his own phone will be monitored as well as everybody else’s?

Or did he simply say it was a wrong number – he was trying to contact a real, elected prime minister?

We may never know.

This was ‘a hoax’ within ‘a hoax’. This “story” has all the newsworthiness of ‘Dog craps in street’ and oh how those who should know better lap it up. Of course Radio 4 – spiritual home of most Oxbridgers – made it the 2nd most important story of the day on their news bulletins on Today. Designed simply to keep informed debate of serious issues off the air waves and newsprint in the run-up to a General Election. “I say Bluffington Minor, that worked a treat, what?”

Actually there are serious issues involved, Cameron was called on his mobile phone, how did the “hoaxer” get that number?
Plus did his security notice any laser light spots on Cameron or his daughter during the call?

I think the caller said,”Hey,Chicken George, are you going to do the TV debates or not.”

To which,CMD replied,”Now look here,I don’t know a Chicken George, unless you mean Gidders, and he is busy with his Abacus at the moment. So na na,nee,na na.”
