Vox Political’s London adventure part two: What I actually said

No, I'm not singing 'My Way': Vox Political's Mike Sivier at the 'Austerity' book launch.

No, I’m not singing ‘My Way’: Vox Political’s Mike Sivier at the ‘Austerity’ book launch.

In response to the hordes of readers who have written in, demanding a follow-up to my article about the ‘Austerity’ book launch, it turns out there is a record of it on the Occupy London website.

Yours Truly is in the very last video on the page – but be warned, it is neither a pretty sight nor sound. I had no idea I looked like a hunchbacked no-neck goblin (although I confess I was aware of the hair loss). As for the voice – it’s hard to describe the mixture of feelings when one realises that the appearance of one’s own Bristolian accent comes as a relief.

“O wad some Power the viddie gie us
To see oursels as ithers see us!”
– as Robert Burns might have said, if he was around today.

Here’s my part of the proceedings. I turn up around the 37th minute – you have been warned:

There’s nothing wrong with a Bristolian accent, I’ve had one all my life.

Oh, I agree – up to a point. I have been conscious of the fact that some hear it as a sign of ‘Yokeldom’, if you see what I mean.

Hey Mike you were fab!! though you did answer the question as to why you don’t sound welsh.
I want to thank you for fighting for everyone, not just the disabled!!

I second Joanna May. There’s nothing wrong with your voice or accent; sounded normal to me.
Keep in mind that everyone is horrified when they hear their own voice on some recording device as it sounds totally different to how we here our own voices… weird that!
I’ve been following your blog now for a few months (stumbled on it by accident) and think it’s ace.
I’ve even emailed Ed Milliband about the DLF because of the info you provided in another post. That’s something I never would have done if it wasn’t for the info blogs like yours put out that should be front page news but isn’t.
I’m not disabled (touch wood) but have the imagination to realize that could happen in a trice.

Very well done, Mike! Excellent talk but I do hope you get the updated stats soon.

    Just disgraceful!

Thanks. When we had no posts on the Tuesday we did wonder if you had been gagged!

    Very glad you haven’t!
