Backroom deal between Tories and UKIP could kill the NHS

Considering the facts of the Coalition deal with the Liberal Democrats*, perhaps we should be asking if a deal has already been struck between the Conservative Party and UKIP.

It would explain why David Cameron’s performance in yesterday’s leader debate was so lacklustre – maybe he doesn’t think he needs to sell himself.

A deal with UKIP makes perfect sense to those of us who have watched politics carefully over the last few years – the ease with which Douglas Carswell and Mark Reckless transferred from one party to the other, keeping their Parliamentary seats in the process, shows how interchangeable the two parties really are.

Labour’s Andy Burnham has written to Cameron, calling on him to “come clean” about any such plans.

He wrote: “During last night’s debate you proved that you cannot defend your record, which is why you cannot win a majority. It is now clear that you are preparing to do a deal with UKIP.

“As someone who follows rather than leads their party, you will know that a deal with UKIP is what the Tory Party wants. A growing number of your MPs and up to half of Conservative activists are arguing for it. Local Tory parties are already striking deals with UKIP up and down the country and, of course, two of your MPs have already crossed the floor.

“We know the terms of such a deal. Nigel Farage has said he would work with you in exchange for ‘a full and fair referendum to be held in 2015’. You have said you would be ‘delighted’ to offer this.

But the real terms of a deal would see the end of the NHS as we know it.

“Your Health and Social Care Act has increased NHS privatisation, and UKIP want to go even further.

“Private providers have won a third of NHS contracts to provide clinical services since your reforms. Nigel Farage has said he supports ‘an insurance-based system of healthcare’, while his deputy has warned that ‘the very existence of the NHS stifles competition’. UKIP’s ex-Tory MP, Douglas Carswell, has called for an ‘open market’ in healthcare contracts.

“This shared agenda will be the real basis for your decision to work together. Your deal with UKIP is a poisonous proposition that would deny working people the care they rely on from a service they cherish.”

Of course, it may well be that Cameron’s Tories and Farage’s Kippers will be unable to muster up a Parliamentary majority together – even in combination with the Liberal Democrats, if that party survives electoral annihilation. Only your vote can decide that.

What will you do?

Will you let these slick operators kill the NHS on the sly?

UKIP are 100% in favour of keeping the NHS yet another attempt at creating a smear which the idle will jump on instead of finding out the truth for themselves. the coalition and labour before them have damaged the NHS with privatisation by the back door, they created the anti disabled culture, and are in favour of TTIP which will inevitably lead to privatisation of the NHS, whereas UKIP oppose TTIP. You have it completely wrong.

So why did garage say that he was in favour of an American style of health by insurance. Especially when as everyone knows the Americans have one of the poorest and most expensive health systems in the world.

Sorry should have said Farage not garage, but garage does seem appropriate.

of course you are Mike because you are pro eussr and will do anything you can to mislead the public about UKIP.

Nonsense. I publish the facts. It is, however, in the interests of UKIP and its supporters to mislead the public – hence your own comments.

These two are the most shadiest and sickest b*****ds on the planet, and they need to be anihilated , before they can sell anymore of our precious NHS off, and I feel sure that Camoron is so confident that he will win, that he has already done a deal with Barage (Farage), and I bet Camoron has already got a plan to stop Barage forcing Camoron to stop the rerendum from going through, we know how Camoron has a habit of breaking promises, and Barage Farage is in the minority. Camoron has got him by the goolies. there is no honour amongst thieves..

liblabcongreen is a europhile party with no difference in their aims, to get money for being an mp and let brussels run our country.

Don’t UKIP MEPs suck down as much money from the European Union as they possibly can, without actually doing any work? I believe it is known as “repatriating” the money.

      • Chris Kitcher April 7, 2015 at 5:52 am - Reply

Not repatriating I call it scrounging or benefit cheating.

They will destroy everything, not just the NHS. The welfare state will take another massive hit and the lives of the poor (both working and not) will become even more unbearable. The public sector will face further cuts, and the private sector will make up for it with zero hour contracts. Cameron will set about writing a British Bill of Rights called “here are the rights you dont have anymore”. Suicide rates will increase amongst the sick and disabled, as well as jobseekers as sanctions become more punitive, will be applied for ever more minor issues, and go on for longer. Due to this we’ll get more civil disobedience, protests marches, violent protest, riots, and terrorism. Crime rates will go up dramatically, but they’ll try to level them off by offering such a poor service, that people will just stop bothering to report them (an extension of what is happening now). And insurance prices will go through the roof. We’ll be turned into a low wage, high priced, stagnant economy that will shrink public welfare and services, but swell corporate welfare to an insane level. And with houses being unaffordable to a large majority of the population we’ll either have to pay inflated rents, or be homeless. And the irony is that the people voting Ukip do it because they think Farage supports the working class. I despair.

The British Bill of Rights is already written and you are absolutely correct about its contents.
As to the rest of your comment – very well-argued.

Considering that UKIP is the most pro NHS political party the whole premise of this piece is doomed from the start, yet another poor attempt by labour to make people worry about UKIP whilst the labour party along with the tories greens and lib dems are wholly in favour of TTIP the brussels imposed regulation which will see the NHS sold off t private health care providers.
