Benefit deaths: time to put pressure on the Department for Work and Pensions

Believe it or not, there may still be some people in the UK who don’t know the Department for Work and Pensions has been ordered to release details of the number of sickness benefit claimants who have died since November 2011.

People of good conscience across the country – including several celebrities – have been publicising Vox Political‘s article on the subject, on Twitter, Facebook and other social media outlets – but the mainstream media of TV, radio and the national newspapers have been quiet so far, despite having been alerted to the issue by This Writer.

Quelle surprise, as the French might say.

It was never really likely that the right-wing press was going to publish material that is as critical of the last government as this undoubtedly is. It seems, if the message is to get out to the wider electorate, then we must get it there ourselves.

Here’s a handy infographic, for that very purpose:

Zdwpdeaths

Feel free to copy it and paste it onto your own Facebook page, Twitter messages, and emails to friends/family/local newspapers and anyone else you believe would benefit from the information.

This is a major issue. The mainstream media want to sideline it because it isn’t convenient for them. They find matters involving the sick and disabled very awkward as it might cast their moral stance in a bad light when they support right-wing political parties.

Don’t let it be sidelined.

Many Vox Political readers are doing their bit to inform the public. We all need to keep up the pressure, right up to polling day (Thursday).

Do it for the sick and disabled. Do it for the sake of your conscience. Do it for the UK.

Have posted this on Facebook. Labour should be using this to discredit the ConDems in the run up to the election.

Despite concerted efforts to get this news over to others,I remain dismayed I truly feel I am not being believed by some they show a look of disbelief.

I have no understanding why the media don’t get these horrors into the public domain, I think it would decide the election result overnight.

My sincere appreciation for your efforts Mike enjoy the sunshine whilst we have it.

Great stuff, Mike. I find the media’s silence totally disgusting, not only on this subject but also on the UN inquiry, which conveniently for the Tories, has also been delayed to after the election. I’ve tweeted and shared on Facebook, and only wish I could do more.

I have literally given up on trying to get the BBC to pay any attention to this. Although they have finally managed to cover the issue very slightly recently, with massive understatement, they outright refuse to countenance giving any airtime whatsoever when I alerted them to what was going on.

With typical, and monumental, arrogance, the BBC basically implied it was less newsworthy than whatever else they were covering at that time and dismissed what I and many others have said.

That’s right; genetic and social cleansing* is less important than, taking today’s news site pages, Do Gamers Care Who Wins The General Election and Amazon Doubles Free Delivery Limit. A story nobody cares about and a plug for a huge corporate tax dodger. Business has a section all to itself, why no equal prominence to social affairs on the loonie lefty PC-gone-mad BB so-called C?

We need a royal commission on this if Labour win the election. That’s one thing the SNP would back given the blatant bias against independence shown by the BBC during the Scottish referendum. After that we need IDS in the dock. Here’s hoping.

    * I wouldn’t use those terms outside of his blog because it sounds like hyperbole to most people which lessens credibility, no matter how accurate it is

I think we should try and engage the group 38 Degrees for action on this, as it may slip under the radar during and after the election changes. My MP is actually a Good guy and visited me over my Disability concerns, and promised a letter from him to DWP. if my PIP assesment goes wrong.. Having been born disabled Im sixty four now, I find it deeply degrading to face another assesment….. as if I am some kind of liar. It utterly disgusts me the way Disabled people are being treated. For some years things had improved for the Disabled. For the last five years everything has gone backwards.. We now live in permanent anxiety, fear and unhappiness.. Never forget it can be you and will be as you age.! This Goverment is killing people and it really doesnt care. Its all about cutting all benefits and making every individual accountable. All the Disabled Charities should also get behind this as some are very well off with legacies..E.g. RNIB think of how many families have a disabled member. MILLIONS of us.

    hi mike
new to your blog, so well done on getting this info.

This may have been answered before (as i say im new!), but have you requested the same data over a similar time span (perhaps 2006-2010), so you can make a direct comparison between pre cuts and post cuts?

cheers, keep up the good work

    Craig
