Plastic Tory Chuka Umunna supports plastic Tory Liz Kendall for Labour leadership

Is anybody surprised that Chuka has supported his fellow right-winger Liz Kendall’s bid for the Labour leadership?

He reckons she would pull Labour out of its “comfort zone” by challenging “conventional wisdom” – meaning, she would turn Labour into more of a carbon-copy of the Conservative Party than it was, even when Tony Blair was running the show.

No.

That would not be the Labour Party.

If these two think Conservative policies are the answer – remember, Liz Kendall supports privatising the NHS and Michael Gove’s private ‘Free Schools’ – they should cross the floor and join the Tories.

Labour leadership candidate Liz Kendall has won the backing of shadow business secretary Chuka Umunna.

Mr Umunna, who pulled out the race himself earlier this month, said Ms Kendall was best placed to drag the party out of its “comfort zone”.

He told the New Statesman Ms Kendall had “challenged conventional wisdom” and asked tough questions about Labour’s future after its defeat.

Does she truly believe people are so stupid, can’t she see the wood for the trees?

Labour voters want to see some compassion shown by an elected leader, she is barking mad and needs someone to explain to her what the vast majority of the electorate are crying out for, not more of the Tory policies.

There is no chance of Liz Kendall being elected anyway and Mr.Umma is out of the reckoning anyway.Andy Burnham is the Tories favourite because it keeps left and right within the status quo….Only Yvette Cooper is likely to give the Tories a bloody nose in the House of Commons and a pretty formidable performer.

      Yvette Cooper?
Are you serious? She’s Ed Balls’ wife – they were both on the PPE course at Oxford, so their politics is the same as David Cameron’s… and you think she’s a Left-wing challenge to the Tories?

So everybody who read PPE at Oxford must, ipso facto, share David Cameron’s politics? Duh! Try looking at the list at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_University_of_Oxford_people_with_PPE_degrees

You may have good reasons for thinking Cooper will be a poor Leader of the Opposition. But being married to Ed Balls and taking a PPE degree at Oxford are two experiences which will, I suspect, have provided a good training in thinking for herself.

We’re discussing people who all studied PPE at Oxford at around the same time. Like it or not, their political views will (in most cases) have been influenced by the opinions of their lecturers, and their success on the course will have been determined by the amount of sympathy with their point of view they could generate in those lecturers – or, more likely, vice versa.

Your list makes my case very eloquently.

Mike, who would you, choose to be the next leader?

Out of the mob who’ve put their names forward? Burnham. I liked him as shadow Health Secretary. His performances made me think I should have supported him in the last leadership poll.

For some reason I feel like pointing out that the Blair Witch Project was a low-budget film that made millions. Liz Kendall on the other hand…

Watching Chuka Umunna on Tuesday`s newsnight giving his reasons for pulling out of Labour leadership – not very convincing! Would not be very surprised to hear some time in the future that he will be spending more time with his family, Depending on how dirty & damaging the skeletons Chuka says he does not have?!…
