Tories Consider Child Benefit Cuts – After Promising They Wouldn’t | Welfare Weekly

Here’s Conservative Party fair play in practice: In the name of “fairness”, the Tories are considering cutting child benefit by up to £2.5 billion a year, meaning parents will be worse-off by £360 annually.

Rich parents would hardly feel the difference but for the poor, it will be a bitter blow.

In the name of “fairness”, then, how will the Conservatives ensure the rich lose a similar proportion of their income?

The Sunday Times reports that Work and Pensions Secretary, Iain Duncan Smith, has ordered civil servants to draw up plans for further cuts to child benefit and housing benefit.

One of the options being considered is limiting child benefit to no more than two children, saving an estimated £1bn a year for the Treasury. The move would affect both working and non-working parents.

Treasury officials are said to prefer a mildly less arbitrary child benefit cap of three children.

Another option being considered is to reduce child benefit for the first child from £20.70 a week to £13.70, saving £2.5bn annually. Affected households would lose £360 a year, reports the Scotsman.

There is major trouble ahead it’s brewing I can sense it, they know exactly what they are doing and something will give soon, the people of the UK have had enough.

Five more years of this don’t think so.

Iain Duncan Smith has been at the Bible again:

Suffer the little children to come unto me.

Well if you didn’t vote in the election or voted conservative then don’t complain…..you are getting what you deserve. For those who voted Green,SNP or any party other than the Labour Party you will feel let down and rather foolish now……it’s too late now because you are now going to get right wing facism until all hell breaks loose and the Tories end up fighting amongst themselves. If you are young then get the hell out of this country whilst you can,it holds nothing for you for the next 5 years.
