Release the Death Statistics on Benefit Cuts to Show Their Full Impact | Maggie Zolobajluk

Please follow the link to the Huffington Post article by Maggie Zolobajluk (with a little assistance from This Writer).

Undoubtedly most – if not all – of you have already signed the petition on Change.org (and if not, why not?) but the tribunal on the DWP’s appeal against providing the benefit-related death statistics is unlikely to take place until late September or early October and it is important to keep this issue in the public eye until then.

Following last week’s budget announcement of £12billion in benefit cuts, how many people will die as a result? Dramatic as it may sound, there is already solid evidence that deaths directly correlate to the harsh family benefits caps like those the government plans to introduce. But that evidence is being hushed up. And you can help it become public by signing the petition I’ve set up on Change.org, which appeals for its release.

I’m asking Iain Duncan Smith to stop blocking the publication of these death statistics from the past four years, which reveal how many people have died within six weeks of their benefits being stopped.

    Mike,
what can be done if the figures are released, but not in a format that reveals the numbers requested?

Well, the DWP’s appeal against my Freedom of Information request is on the grounds that it will be publishing the information – except of course that the plan is to release it as ‘Age-Standardised Mortality Rates’, which are no good to most of us.
      I didn’t ask for ‘Age-Standardised Mortality Rates’.
I reckon the DWP will lose its appeal and we’ll get the figures I wanted.

They are already a step ahead, the Reich wing Standard is bleating in large type that TOXIC AIR and Diesel Fumes is killing 400 a week ( surprising that, when we have lower transport useage on the Roads then we had 5 years ago)—We know that some 9,000/10,000 die each month, before 2007 it was some 4/5000 monthly: one might hazard a Gideon statistic, and deduce that the DWP is murdering some 5,000 people Monthly

I’m not holding my breath, the figures will not be accurate, as Mike says above they are already trying to offset causes of deaths to car fumes, what next legal highs, antiperspirant’s ? anything vaguely plausible it seems.
The damage legal highs are causing seem to be ignored, that leads me to believe someone somewhere in that rotten bunch profiting from them.
Mention any legalization or regulation of so called “illegal drugs” and Tories all do the ostrich.
They must be happy with the profit they make from cleaning all the coke money I guess, I wonder if that cash was taken into consideration when calculating our GDP, if not why not? They threw just about everything else in the ring.

Cleaning all the coke money? I should add “in your opinion” to that remark.
If you’re asking whether drugs are included in calculating GDP, yes they are. They were added last year, if I recall correctly.
