Fresh Labour v Tired Tories in a war of the words

—Bright, fresh and popular: Jeremy Corbyn and deputy Tom Watson meet the public on their way to the Labour Party conference in Brighton.

—Bright, fresh and popular: Jeremy Corbyn and deputy Tom Watson meet the public on their way to the Labour Party conference in Brighton.

The contrast is so strong it is painful – and for the Tories, the worst of it is that they have set themselves up for the fall.

On one side we have Jeremy Corbyn. In his speech to the Labour Party Conference, the new leader made a joke of commentators who have been trying their hardest to talk down his success.

“Some media commentators who’ve spent years complaining about how few people have engaged with political parties have sneered at our huge increase in membership,” he said.

“If they were sports reporters writing about a football team they’d be saying:

“’They’ve had a terrible summer.

“‘They’ve got 160,000 new fans.

“‘Season tickets are sold out.

“‘The new supporters are young and optimistic.

“‘I don’t know how this club can survive a crisis like this!’”

In response, according to fellow blogger Alex Little, Tory Chief Whip Michael Gove put out the following statement:

“Labour have confirmed that they are a threat to our national security, our economic security and to the security of everyzzzzzzzzzzzzz…”

Sorry – nodded off there for a moment. The last bit was going to be “family in Britain”, one feels sure – as it’s the same dull drone that the Tories have been using to bore us ever since pig-fancying PM David Cameron used it in response to Mr Corbyn’s election victory more than two weeks ago.

Tired Tories.

Fresh Labour.

The only problem is if the Tories keep drilling that boring overused line out time after time people start to believe it. They’ve done it before to great success, sadly Labour just accepted it and carried on. Now they need to fight bac k and stand up for what’s right.

Yes – the Great Lie. They got the idea from Goebbels.
And yes – that’s another similarity between the Conservatives and the Nazis.

Yes but they hadn’t counted Jeremy Corbyn’s fresh approach to politics and now they are scared, and I know people are going to think I am crazy ( I am actually) But this reminds me of Watership Down, with Cameron as Pig (sorry) Big ears getting his comeuppance!!

Yep – which is why we need to keep repeating the mantra – David Cameron is evil.

Well done Mike, you managed to get the Nazis into the debate. Last time I looked the conservatives hadn’t built any concentration camps or gas chambers! But then when did Tory bashing have to contain any accurate descriptions?

There are far too many similarities between Conservative and Nazi behaviour to ignore them. You seem to have come into this conversation late – very, very late, in fact – so perhaps you should do a little reading on the subject before presuming to lecture those of us who have been studying the phenomenon for many years.

Corbyn did retaliate it in his speech, wonderfully, explaining how THEY are the threat to people’s security, with concrete examples. It’s a new world happening.

Yes, and I could have used that, but it would have had less impact, I think. Saving it for another article.

Laura Kunesburg (or however you bloody spell her name – and the woman gets on my toot by the way!) is the BBC political correspondent (Oh they missed out a word there between BBC and political and that word is … tory) was interviewing people (carefully selected of course) after Corbyns speech and most of them said … “how’s he going to pay for it all?” and LK said “Corbyn didn’t mention the economy”; and I thought well if you’d listened to John McDonnells speech yesterday dear he did. Silly woman!

Laura Kuenssberg appears to be a member of the so-claimed “independent” think-tank Policy Exchange which in reality is a hard-right Tory outfit. Her head honcho Nick Robinson is a high-up member of the Tory Party and and a well known Tory activist.

BBC and Tory? In trying to vent your spleen against Laura Kuenssberg, you appear to have left your common sense behind. It is well known that the Beeb would sooner lose the licence fee than support the conservatives. Oh and wibblywobbly, Corbyn didn’t say how he was going to pay for it all and when LK said “Corbyn didn’t mention the economy”; she was correct, it was John McDonnell who spoke on the economy not comrade Corbyn.

And wildswimmer, your statement ‘appears to be’ is conjecture on your part that appears to have no basis in fact.

    • Mike Sivier September 30, 2015 at 10:59 pm - Reply

It seems you aren’t aware that the BBC news department is chock full of Tories and BBC news coverage broadly supports the Conservative view, even when Labour is in office.
Also you seem unaware that Jeremy Corbyn and John McDonnell are in the same political party. Corbyn is the leader – he says what he wants to do. McDonnell is the money man – he says how it will be funded.
I’m happy to help you understand these things.
And I’m sure the commenters you address directly will have their own responses. Remember to keep it civilised, folks.

Labour needs to start fighting back and telling the people the truth about what the tories are really all about, themselves, change this frame of thinking and mindset of believing everything that they’re told and for not thinking for themselves and being gutless, has poisoned us for far too long and it’s time to change that way of thinking and acceptance, it’s time for a change within us all and within politics, from top to bottom!
