Greece’s former finance minister is in the process of setting up a pan-European movement to reform the EU’s institutions, he has revealed.

Yanis Varoufakis said his experience in Eurogroup meetings had left him with the conclusion that the EU was not democratic.

“What is going on in Greece is simply a reflection – an echo – of a far deeper crisis throughout the eurozone, which cannot be solved at any national or member-state level,” told the Open Democracy website.

The EU parliament can’t be held to account by UK citizens.

Please sign this petition to leave the EU

I would not advise anyone to sign any petitions on the basis of a bald statement such as this.

Please provide evidence to support your claim.

Good luck with that then. Many Europeans with a primary education have been saying for years both privately and by way of ignored referendums that the EU is a monstrous denier of democracy. If UK citizens think that they will be given a referendum to vote on EU membership they should wake up and realise that it ain’t gonna happen baby – it’s too close to democracy for comfort.

I have been an avid follower of Yanis since he first came on the scene. If anyone can do this – he can.

The Global Minotaur by Yanis Varouvakis pub. 2013

“Financialisation. greed, ineffectively regulated banks – all have been blamed for the global economic crisis. In reality, though, these were mere subplots in a much grander, almost mythological, drama – one that can be traced back to the Great Crash of 1929, then on through to the 1970s when, like the Athenians forced to pay tribute to the Cretan beast, the world began financing the ‘Global Minotaur’ of America’s budget and trade deficits. Now, from the deepening crisis in Europe to the heated debates about austerity versus further fiscal stimuli in the US, the consequences of the fatally wounded Minotaur are everywhere.

Remarkable and provocative. The Global Minotaur gives an essential account of the socio-economic events that have shaped the world as we now know it, and the options available for reintroducing a modicum of reason in our irrational global economic order.”

Thanks for sharing an alternative viewpoint……I must admit at first glance I could not see how a Greek politician could offer any constructive advice on how to run the EU better. However his knowledge of being exposed to the real front line of EU politics and serving on Eurogroup meetings must have served him well for seeing first hand the truth as it really is. My rude awakening to euro commercial joined up thinking was truly frustrating and like trying to herd cats.
