Has Peter Hitchens been reading Vox Political? He seems to agree about how to fight terror!

Last Updated: November 16, 2015By

Apparently this is Jihadi John (Muhammed Emwazi).

November 15 was a surreal time for This Writer – on many levels, not least of which was the moment when it seemed Daily Flail columnist Peter Hitchens had either read This Blog and agreed with its opinion on the way to fight Daesh (IS) – or had come to the same conclusion on his own.

He seems to be saying we should be engaging our brains, rather than bullets and bombs, to defeat this threat – which is what Yr Obdt Srvt here has been saying since the Paris attacks took place on November 13.

His article is, as you might expect, a little overblown and long-winded, but here’s the relevant part, from the very end of the piece:

Our task is now first to mourn with our French friends and allies. And after that, to think rather than to shout. Rhetoric and militancy have not done very much for us in the past. Why should it be different this time?

In fairness to Hitchens, he’s always been very anti-interventionist, more for xenophobic reasons than any great ethical ones; he just doesn’t want Britain getting caught up in complicated foreign stuff.

So this article is perfectly consistent with his usual stance.

Watched him on BBCQT a few weeks back and he did make sense in some of his comments.
