Labour Cannot Risk Being Tarred as a Party of Illegal and Irrational War Once Again | Len McCluskey

This week Labour MPs are likely to have to cast what will be one of the most important parliamentary votes of their career when the Prime Minister brings his proposal for Britain to join the bombing of Syria to the Commons.

It will be vital for two reasons. The first and most important is that Labour once again risks being tarred as a party of illegal and irrational war.

The 2003 vote to invade Iraq has haunted Labour ever since – losing millions of votes that have yet to be regained and causing around half the party’s membership to resign. Nothing in Labour’s history has traumatised it quite so much perhaps.

Now again Labour is being asked to support a war that lacks clear United Nations sanction – or a coherent purpose.

Right-on Mike. I don’t remember any time throughout my seventy years ever seeing a politician having as clear a mandate as Mr Corbyn to confront the warmongering Blair Mini me’s. We all knew that he would be driven to the wall by people of low merit or moral worth, but he has the country behind him to change the direction this country is being taken in by the Bankers’ best friends.

Come on Jeremy, we are all on your side.

Totally agree. You are supposed to learn from the lessons of history. Cameron and the Labour neo-Blairites who still believe that a “good”war will enhance their chances of removing Corbyn are delusional. The public no longer accept dodgy dossiers or stupid rhetoric about the need to bomb our way to “victory”over ISIS. They know that it will eventually lead to boots on the ground and the weekly scenes in Wootton Bassett as they bring dead British soldiers home in coffins.

Len McCluskey is absolutely spot on here. Shame on any Labour MPs who do vote for yet another totally unnecessary and devastating war in the Middle East.

The tories with their closet tory pals in Labour will push ahead for war, no matter the cost, idiots like “comedian” Matt Forde who still think Blair as some sort of left wing messiah when it actual fact he was a greedy, warmongering naughty boy! They’ll get their own way, if I was Corbyn, I’d be trying to weed out the tory Labour members and kick them out because if he doesn’t, they will launch a coup, remove him and have one of their own take charge and that will indeed finish off the Labour party!
