Paula Sheriff: Labour’s Dewsbury and Mirfield MP opposes air strikes

The situation in Syria is incredibly complex and I am deeply conscious that at the heart of this debate are millions of innocent civilians.

Without doubt the world cannot sit back while this humanitarian crisis persists and I certainly do not advocate a policy of passively doing nothing.

However, I do not believe that the airstrikes proposed by the Prime Minister are the best form of action to take at this time and I am also unconvinced that there are currently ground forces with the capability to defeat ISIS / Daesh, without which airstrikes are of extremely limited use even just for a military strategy.

On this basis the Prime Minister has failed to convince me that pursuing air strikes in Syria is part of a longer-term and comprehensive strategy and I therefore intend to vote against the motion.

You need to apply common sense mike we had the IRA years ago killing people but the prime minister did not say we have to bomb Ireland

and that’s the bottom line you cant bomb Syria as the terrorists are unknown and it would be impossible to say who was one when they live in such close quarters to the average person

all you can do is to say we killed thousands of people and hopefully the majority were terrorists but in reality you wouldn’t have a clue and next year another group would spring up under another name and just going around in ever decreasing circles

the bottom line is terrorism is worldwide and only like minded people like myself and Jeremy corbyn could possibly slow it’s advancement down and longer term halt it

terrorism is caused by government and the way it treats it’s people as is crime

wherever you are in the world and terrorism and murder is high you can be sure that the government of the day is poor with no concern for it’s people at all and those governments are the key in being got rid of and not the people who have had to live in such bad condition’s in which they have either had to flee or stay and fight back in order to live
