UK trade deficit widens in October – BBC News

Last Updated: December 10, 2015By

Weren’t we all supposed to be exporting our goods and services to the world by now – a leaner, more competitive UK?

No?

Oh, so that was another Tory lie then. That’s good to know, isn’t it?

The UK’s trade deficit – the difference between the amount it imports and exports – widened considerably in October, according to official figures.

The monthly deficit was £4.14bn, up from £1.07bn in September.

Between August and October there was a deficit of £8.4bn, a £2.4bn increase from the previous quarter, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said.

The growing deficits were due to a big increase in imports of goods, combined with a small decrease in exports.

If this is Osborne’s idea of a ‘recovery’ I’d hate to see his idea of a disaster. (Actually I have seen his idea of a ‘disaster’ – 11 years of consecutive growth under new labour).

No chance interest rates will be rising then as their big debt gets bigger by the day….not much trumpet blowing publicity on their debt position. With Xmas season upon us there will be a strong swing to importations skewing the gap even wider. Ho hum, as Michael states above we are safe in their tacky hands …… NOT. No wonder Camoron wants out he can see the writing on the wall. Camoron will be doing a Blair on his mate Ossie, who’s gagging to be leader of the pack, and leave him holding the poison challice and all the crap when it all falls apart. Couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch of twits.

The deficit was always going to widen. We have lost so much manufacturing and engineering to name but two of our marketable resources during successive Labour and Tory Governments that our inability to market goods was always going to suffer and it has. The UK is now in a downward spiral which the Tories austerity policies have exacerbated to the point that any manoeuverability we once had is gone. It was predictable and avoidable – a double whammy for Osborne.
