70,000 Indian Muslim clerics issue fatwa against terror groups

Butt(-plug) of the joke: CNN thought a flag at a Gay Pride parade represented terrorist organisation ISIS - in fact it featured representations of sex toys.

Butt(-plug) of the joke: Daesh/IS wants to be taken seriously – that’s why it’s always useful to remind ourselves that news channel CNN mistook the terrorists’ flag for one at a Gay Pride parade featuring representations of sex toys.

When This Writer heard that 70,000 Muslims had signed a fatwa against Daesh (IS if you like) and other terrorist organisations, my first reaction was flippant: “Are these David Cameron’s ‘bogus battalions’?”

Of course they’re not. It’s just an obvious correlation due to their numbers being the same as those Cameron claimed would support UK military action against the terrorists in Syria.

But the truth is, these people could deal the terrorists a far more bitter blow than any air strike. They are taking away the terrorists’ assumed legitimacy.

Daesh wants people around the world to believe that it is an Islamic organisation, and that true Muslims not only should, but will support it.

But here are one and a half million of them – admittedly in India – who won’t accept anything of the sort.

This could cripple Daesh’s recruitment of cannon fodder – or perhaps I mean radicalised fighters. No, cannon fodder is more appropriate.

Now the world needs more Muslim groups to come forward with the same message.

Nearly 70,000 Indian Muslim clerics have signed a fatwa against Isis and other terror groups saying they were “not Islamic organisations”.

Around 1.5 million Muslims visiting a shrine dedicated to a Sufi Islamic saint near the city of Ajmer in north western state of Rajasthan during the Urs religious festival have signed a petition against terrorist attacks.

Mufti Mohammed Saleem Noori, one of the clerics who signed the fatwa, told the Times of India: “From Sunday onwards, when the annual Urs began, members of Dargah Aala Hazrat have been distributing forms among followers seeking signatures to show that those signing stand against terrorism.

“Nearly 15 lakh (1.5m) Muslims have recorded their protest. Around 70,000 clerics from across the world, who were part of the event, passed the fatwa.”

He called on media organisations to stop referring to the groups – including Isis, the Taliban and al-Qaeda – as “Islamic”.

I have seen a good proportion of Muslims helping in the flood crisis in this country.

Cameron’s Bogus Battalion is just a figment of someone’s vivid imagination.
    Cameron hasn’t lied, of course!!

At last! I’ve refused to refer to the terrorists trying to establish them selves in theiddle east as anything but “Jihadist State In Syria” for months. Now, if only the imams in the west would follow this lead.

It’s not a brave thing to do, it’s the right thing to do!

I agree that media should stop referring to the known terrorist groups as Islamic. Problem is it us unlikely to find favour with the Daily Mail and other right wing media as it peppers their reports with Islamophobia.

Interesting that Indian Muslims are the first to really vocally show their dislike of ISIS& Co while other Muslims have only whispered theirs, or not said anything at all by way of condemnation.

Just hope Gobby Cameron doesn’t try to hitch his wagon to their cause and use it to justify bombing of Syria.

Isn’t a fatwah similar to declaring war? If so, would the clerics et. al. support Cameron’s bombing campaign? I’m a tad confused tbh.

It’s a ruling on a point of Islamic law by a recognised authority, so I’m guessing no.
