Private Eye: Cameron Received Saudi Honours Illegally | Beastrabban\’s Weblog

Last Updated: January 9, 2016By

Kudos to the Beast for getting this out before I could. This Writer read it in Private Eye last night (Friday) but was unable to blog about it until now, due to other commitments. Here’s some of what the Beast has to say:

David Cameron is also in this fortnight’s Private Eye because of this picture, which shows him bowing his head to receive a medal from the king of Saudi Arabia.

The Eye points out that this isn’t any old decoration, but the sash of the Order of King Abdulaziz. Cameron was given it for ‘meritorious services to the kingdom’. The Eye adds rhetorically ‘why?’

Cameron’s acceptance of the award is illegal. British citizens are explicitly forbidden to receive foreign awards without the permission of the reigning monarch.

The Eye points out that Cameron did not receive the Legion D’Honneur when he visited France, or the Order of Leopold when visiting Belgium. So why did he accept the Order of Abdulaziz? ‘To ask the question’, they state, ‘is to answer it. As Mrs Merton might say: Dave, what first attracted you to these oppressive zillionaire brutes?’

I guess it’s like the british honours system….just a little token of our gratitiude for services rendered…….I’m sure more monetary rewards will follow once he leaves the trough for good and joins Blair on the gratitude trail for all their mates in low ;places.

A great pity, when that juicy neck was so exposed, they didn’t chop his head off! It’s what the Saudi’s do best after all! And I mean no detriment to those who’ve suffered and lost their lives at the hands of them. Just thought two birds one stone!

I don’t know if Cameron asked the Queen for permission to accept this award or not. However, I am sure that Brenda loves the Saudis every bit as much as the Tories and I wouldn’t be surprised if she OKed it.
