‘Welly wally’ Philip Dilley’s parting shot: It’s ‘inappropriate’ to ask him to work at short notice

Sir Philip Dilley said he hadn’t said anything untrue, apart from signing off the statement about his whereabouts over Christmas [Image: Mirror Online].

Astonishing.

If anybody has any background information that can explain why such an unmitigated buffoon landed a top public service job, please send it in.

Welly wally Philip Dilley resigned as head of the Environment Agency today, after choosing to stay on holiday in Barbados as floods ravaged Britain .

In an extraordinary and bitter parting shot, Sir Philip moaned that it was “inappropriate” for him to be expected to be available at short notice throughout the year.

And he claimed he had not said anything that was untrue during his time as floods chief, “apart from approving the statement about my location over Christmas that in hindsight could have been clearer.”

The EA was accused of misleading the public by issuing a statement claiming Sir Philip was “at home with his family” over Christmas.

The statement failed to mention Sir Philip was at his second home on a Caribbean island.

He ran a very sucessful engineering firm called Arup and therefore was suitably qualified for the role of non-executive Chairman. That is the role to hold the board to account and ensure that the overall strategy undertaken by the board is efficient and that they’re working effectively.

To reiterate he is not an operational manager required to organise flood responses in any shape or form, he’s been unfairly judged by the biased media and scapegoated by the government.

      That’s an interesting alternative view.

I would say that he didn’t just mislead the public, but he deliberately misled the public.
