Congratulations to Jeremy Corbyn for actually going and finding out for himself the conditions under which migrant have to live, in French camps.

David Cameron would have stayed well away from any people who were actually undergoing hardship and privation – as he did on British soil during the floods a couple of weeks ago.

Of the two very different styles of leadership, which do you think honestly deserves your support?

Jeremy Corbyn has visited a migrant camp in northern France and spoken of the “dreadful conditions” there.

The Labour leader said conditions in the Grande-Synthe camp near Dunkirk would be a “disgrace anywhere”, and Britain should be “part of bringing European support to people”.

He said the long-term solution was to deal with the conflicts causing the migration crisis.

“What I’m trying to achieve here is to understand the nature of the refugee crisis that’s facing the whole of Europe,” he said.

“Ultimately we deal with the situation by dealing with the problem at its source, which are the wars and conflicts.

“Also, there are the human needs of people. We have got people here who have been here for months, if not longer than that, with no proper education, no access to doctors, no access to dentists, limited access to food – in very cold, very wet conditions.”

He added: “We as human beings have to reach out to fellow human beings.”

I am so ashamed of this UK Tory Government and of anyone who supports it. I am a migrant just as my great grandfather was an economic migrant from Orkney in the 19th century fleeing the hunger and deprivation during the time of the Enclosures in Scotland. He went to Australia: four of my uncles fought in France and in Gallipoli. Britain was Kind and welcoming to me and generously allowed me to stay here in an hour of great need. I always admired and acclaimed a British sense of humanity, ot justice, fair play, of decency. I feel helpless and ashamed in front of the suffering of refugees,I don’t know what the answer could be except that common humanity should stop this atrocity.
