Tory cuts leave millions in poverty as campaigners warn work is failing to pay
We need to keep reminding them that we do know – and we expect them to behave like government ministers and change conditions for the better.
Or else.
Brutal Tory benefit cuts have left more people living below the poverty line than at the height of the 2008 financial crash, a report reveals.
The damning study found the number struggling to make ends meet has risen to 11.6million – and the majority are in working households.
This is an increase of a third since 2008-09, the study for the Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF) reveals.
It says the cuts to welfare have outweighed the increases in family income from tax cuts and having a job.
And families with children have been worst hit, with 2million more now earning less that the Minimum Standard Income – the amount the public say is needed for an acceptable standard of living.

These Tories couldn’t care less. It’s all part of their plan to take the country back to conditions as they were in the 19th century. Remember when senior Tories used to bash on about “Victorian Values”?
We all should know the Tories are NOT really into “saving money” at all. They cut the spending on the NHS for example not to save money – but to strangle it so they can send in private companies (which they own part own or have shares in) to “rescue” it from collapse when the situation gets really bad.
Yes – good point and something we should all remember.
Of course they don’t care about saving Money Paul its all a cleverly orchestrated act to convince middle England they can manage the economy better than the Liberals or Labour, if they cared about saving Money they would encourage the police to prosecute Systemic fraud within companies contracted to provide public services via Government Departments, The Department of Work and Pensions being a major offender ; Just start up a company with the name Training in the title and they will shower you with taxpayers cash via The Skills funding agency, no questions asked, and if your unlucky enough to get found out, it wont be you doing a prison sentence , no your front line junior employees will do that for you.

(only 2.2 million less than the number of people who voted Tory in May 2015)
Can anyone envisage 13.7 million people voting Tory in a snap election? There are millions more who have not suffered under Tory “cuts” but are hardcore Labour and many millions of households who are not in poverty – yet – who have seen their income reduced because of stagnating wages. Even middle class earners are going to be hit by the city council budget cuts, so they are unlikely to be chuffed to bits. Tory are backing themselves into a corner, no wonder they changed the boundaries and cut the “short money” in order to rig the next election in their favour. At the rate they’re going there won’t be anybody but the rich to vote for them.
Whatever happened to that promise of the burden being on the broadest shoulders crap?
Hence why they wanted to move the poverty line.
Where is all the money they have “saved”? From all the services being cutback, the money they took away from councils where has it gone because the TORIES have borrowed more money in the last few years than labour ever did in 13. Get rid of TORIES.
This Conservative Party are only interested in squandering money that does not even belong to them. More and more people are even considering SERIOUS CRIME as trying to survive any other way is becoming impossible day by day yet in prison it is becoming a lot more inviting than a cold, dark house and the feeling of hunger.
You mean those new, privately-owned and run prisons that the government is allowing to be built?
ive never been strong on politics. but had a chat with my dad recently on the ongoing issues with benefit cuts and the cuts to services around the country.
strangely his main point was that biggest percentage of voting public were working class and their votes were the ones to clinch the win for tory party. but as we have no way to oust a government with a vote of no confidence.we will have to ride it out till next election. but by then will many working class be left.between starvation and suicides the numbers will dwindle.
