The descent into chaos | Tax Research UK
For all its faults, and they are many, the EU was a relatively minor issue in UK politics and should have been left to stay that way. Instead it is now centre stage. Chaos and uncertainty will ensue, before and after any referendum. And we can be quite sure little will change in the EU as a result but much might in this country if we leave.
The decent into a chaos we never needed, do not deserve, and will definitely regret, has begun.
David Cameron may, ultimately, be a victim of it. The man who thought he was a unionist may ultimately tear this country apart, and leave it internationally shredded, in a way few could have imagined possible. But he will not be the ultimate victim in that case. There will be many more of those.

hmm in or out but then iceland norway are both out but still trade with the eu hmm
Of course they still trade with the EU; there’s no bar on that. They have to conform to EU quality standards, though – and of course they pay customs tariffs that we don’t.
Another thing that Nige the Pint has failed to inform people about. Norway has sovereign control over the laws & regs governing the Norwegian agriculture & fishing industries… but pay them much higher subsidies than the EU requires.
Apart from that, to sell anything in the EU, and in Norway itself, all EU requirements, such as safety of toys, must be complied with. Those requirements are set by the EU, but with no input AT ALL from Norway.
And… a minor detail… but countries which want access to the EU’s 500 million market HAVE to accept freedom of movement, as both Norway and Switzerland have done… both with higher rates of immigration than the UK..
The current furore over our EU membership is almost entirely a long-term internal Tory Party squabble.
A reader has mentioned Norway not being in the EU, but in order to trade with the EU Norway pays into the organisation almost as much as we in the UK do, but it has no say in EU matters (Norway also has an extremely close relationship with its neighbour Sweden, which is of course a member).
