Poll count firm’s link to Conservative MP raises concern about corruption

It should be easy to dismiss the concerns mentioned here – but the Conservatives have just doubled their seats in the Scottish Parliament.

And there were concerns over alleged vote-rigging in the independence referendum as well.

It seems that matters which should stay neutral are being increasingly politicised, with democracy the loser.

The Conservative Government would privatise everything but justice and national defence if it could.

But with doubt raised over elected police commissioners and now election count agencies, have David Cameron and his cronies paid too little attention to the possibility of corruption?

Or do they welcome it?

A Tory MP is a director of a company that has become a major player in how elections are managed in Scotland, it has emerged.

Concerns have been raised with the Electoral Commission about the involvement with Idox of former Tory Cabinet minister Peter Lilley, who is a senior non-executive director.

Idox has had a hand in providing count software, including postal vote management support, among other services, for elections since at least 2012.

In a statement to shareholders, the firm said it also successfully provided “the majority of electoral services” for the 2014 Scottish referendum, saying that its systems managed the highest turnout in recent years for a major UK election.

“The Conservative Government would privatise everything but justice and national defence if it could.”

I can’t imagine them not attempting to privatise those as well.

Well, I’m taking my information from a 2011 interview with David Cameron so it probably is out of date!

All conservatives/right wingers are corrupt, it’s in their nature.

Tax Haven money paid to private enterprise to propagate corruption with dividends returned to tax haven shareholders while supporting Tory nepotism, Hmm, this goes full circle, or is it a square.

Mustn’t forget the Liberal Democrat who thought he had lost, but then a bundle of his votes were found under a Tory candidates! Something doesn’t ring true with how his votes had been ‘mislaid’ like this.

If you are referring to Mr Enright, he was a Labour candidate – now a councillor – in Witney, Oxfordshire, which is David Cameron’s constituency.
I agree with your opinion about the way his votes had been ‘mislaid’ – see my article.

to many key Gov areas being outsourced. At least some Gov. workers had integrity and codes of conduct I’m not so confident privatised companies have the same interest playing to their god …. profit and power.

I do share your concerns about vote-rigging and that it may have had a bit to do with the referendum but I don’t think it was the main reason for the weird Tory vote in Scotland last week. That was down to Tank Commander Ruthie basing her entire campaign, not on policies, but on claiming to be the only party that would stop a 2nd referendum. She banged on about it, far more than the SNP, for weeks on end and attracted original No voters from other parties. Although it should have been an election for running Scotland for 5 years she made it a divisive Yes/No. I look forward to the first FMQs when she will, in her role as main leader of the opposition (she says), have to actually come up with some ideas.

      That seems like fun.
Could you let us all know when that’s going to happen?

I think it will be on Thursday 19th May. They have to get all the swearing in, admin stuff and official choice of FM before that.

I’ll put it in my diary.
