Sign the petition demanding suspension of Tory MPs suspected of election fraud
What an excellent idea.
The 38 Degrees petition site is hosting a petition calling for the suspension of Conservative MPs who are suspected of having overspent their expenses in the 2015 general election campaign – and under-declared them.
This is a criminal offence and anybody found guilty could face up to a year in prison.
No less than 33 Tory MPs are alleged to have committed expenses fraud in this manner – more than the Conservative majority in the House of Commons.
So they’re not going to vacate their seats willingly.
The argument for them to go is a good one, though: Until their innocence is proven (or not) every decision in which they take part is questionable.
That includes every vote won by the Conservative Government since the May 2015 general election.
So it is in David Cameron’s best interests for these MPs to be suspended from Parliament until such time as the police conclude investigations – or after the verdict is reached, should any of them go to trial.
He won’t see it that way.
So it’s up to you to persuade him.

As much as I dislike the Tories, in this country they are innocent until proven guilty.
Did you approve of the suspension of Ken Livingstone?
The suspension of Livingstone is purely a matter for the Labour party. The suspension of MPs is a matter for the House of Commons. It is not practice for MPs to be suspended if they are accused of anything.
It looks like a fuss about nothing. The expenses look like central party costs. Labour and other parties also had battle buses in the election. The amounts of money are tiny and I doubt that anyone except a handful of people really care.
Why should there be one rule for these MPs and another for everyone else?
Another commenter quite rightly pointed out that company employees are suspended if suspected of serious wrong-doing; these MPs are, indeed, suspected of extremely serious wrong-doing.
For all your protestations, this is NOT “a fuss about nothing”. I know you’re doing your masters’ bidding but you are also making a fool of yourself.
The amounts of money are adding up to around £200,000 or more – that’s not “tiny”.
Oh, and people across the country care about this, a great deal.
Yes,I agree, innocent until proven guilty but when the evidence clearly shows a perpetrators guilt then they are kept away from the public/from making negative decisions/actions that can detrimentally affect the public/society; remand into prison/house arrest/curfew.
Also, any employee under the suspicion a wrongful/illegal act in their employment is duly suspended whilst investigations are seen through. With this in mind along with the paperwork of the Channel 4’s investigations that seem to show and indicate fraud, I will be signing this petition.

Suspension, without the presumption of guilt, pending the outcome of an investigation is a common approach in the workplace. Why should MP’s be treated any differently?

I think we should know who these MPs are and what they are to be charged with, first.

There are a few articles on this site; Channel 4 News has many reports; and the original investigation was in the Daily Mirror so check that paper’s website too.
I think it a good idea. Unfortunately I can not see Cameron agreeing to do it. Firstly, he will yell “innocent until proven guilty”; secondly why would he put his slender Commons majority at risk in the best interests of the Country? This School for Scoundrels of a Govt knows boundaries in the world of lies and deceit. Nevertheless I will sign any petition that is set up

Remand on / or without bail, is a perfectly legitimate tool available, guilty or not.
after living in my 2 bed flat for 9 years and working until a very short while before being ill and unable to work ,along comes the bedroom tax.my local council(wdh ) were more than happy to moan about some increasing rent arrears because my needed benefit was being swallowed by this said tax but weren’;t that eager to supply with me with a smaller property.reminds me off the thatcher era in poll tax. swings and roundabouts.
