The government must work closely with disabled people and user-led organisations to rebuild trust damaged by the flawed work capability assessment (WCA) if it wants to improve its failing welfare-to-work programmes, according to a new report.

The report by The Work Foundation, part of Lancaster University, calls for an overhaul of the employment support available for disabled people and those with long-term health conditions.

And it warns that a “culture of mistrust” has built up within the social security system, which was “particularly felt by those with long-term health conditions”.

“mistrust” is not the operant description, “distrust” only begins to describe the real extent of millions who believe the DWP and JobCentrePlus are not only corrupt but legalised corporations of murder. When the Government of the day is totally disbelieved and actively discriminates against disabled and working poor, what you end up with is a dictatorship that minorities have to pool their resources to fight back against. Welcome as the report is, it needs to use language that better reflects the true extent of the end users.

If anything needs an overhaul, it’s the state and who is chosen to be politicians so we don’t get stuck with incompetent, dodgy, greedy, arrogant, clueless, out of touch, posh, egotistical, rich, Etonian boys and the female equivalent anymore!
