Pete Wishart wants police to investigate the Tories nationally over election expenses. Perhaps he can achieve what I could not
Most of the allegations are about the use of ‘battle buses’ to transport activists into local constituencies.
There’s only one serious mistake in this Mirror article – Pete Wishart is an MP for the SNP.
This Writer is delighted that he has demanded an investigation of the Conservative Party nationally, to do with election expenses.
Beneath the nationalist, independence-demanding, fervour that marks out the SNP, there are some excellent public representatives doing excellent work, and this is vital.
Also, I asked the Serious Fraud Office to investigate the Tories, weeks ago, and they turned their noses up at me.
While I deplore the possibility that he might get a better response because he’s an MP, I fully support Mr Wishart for trying.
Even though he should not have need to.
In order to try and get to the heart of what is going on I have asked the metropolitan police to investigate the national Conservative Party and requested that the Tory party Chair, Lord Feldman, stands down whist these inquiries are undertaken.
He was the chair of the Conservative Party when all these allegations were said to have taken place and there are questions about his role in this.
As the net tightens the Conservative Party tries to have these investigations blocked. They desperately lash out at other parties and try to draw them in.
When none of this works they then question the integrity of the independent Electoral Commission themselves.
As hard as the Conservatives try to deflect and dismiss these charges as stunts the net is closing in.
The police investigations will take their course and at the end of this process there might be a number of serious consequences for this Government.

I wonder if the Serious Fraud Office has realised their job is to prevent and detect serious fraud, not to commit it and support it?
Personally I feel that all the police enquiries should be overseen by the Serious Fraud Office, because it appears to me that the whole thing was a deliberate systematic fraud conspiracy, sanctioned right at the top of the Tory Party.
But when I contacted the SFO, they could not have been more dismissive.
Good that he is doing this. But why isn’t Labour joining forces with the SNP to support this? Is it the fact that “turf wars” between the SNP and Labour in Scotland seems to be more important to preserve than a combined effort to put the Tories out of Office? As for the reaction of the Serious Fraud Office, is it due to the fact that they are currently “too busy” looking into BHS and Sports Direct to be bothered with such a trivial matter as Election Expenses Fraud which of course only has an impact on the very foundations of Parliamentary Democracy in this country.
