A disabled person appeals for undecided and non-voters to support ‘Remain’

If you still don’t know which way to vote – or are planning to abstain – please read the following and think about the devastating effect a ‘Leave’ vote may have on the least fortunate in society.

This article is not written by an ‘expert’ or a politician; it is by someone who is on the front line of the Tories’ war on the poor – a disabled person taking the brunt of Tory austerity cuts.

Brexit will make life hugely worse for this person, without improving your life to any great extent.

But don’t take my word for it:

This is about more than trade and economics; it’s also about rights and protection of marginalised groups.

There are four years left before the next General Election, and, whatever you think of the EU, the prospect of the Conservatives headed by any one of the contenders for leader, who all make Cameron look moderate, is unthinkable. The people who want Britain to remove itself from the European Court of Human Rights as soon as we’re done with the EU will be in charge, and then the only thing which keeps them in check will be gone. The EU is not the ECHR, but belonging to the ECHR is a political, if not legal, requirement of membership of the EU these days. It’s the ECHR which has given disabled people access to society, restored our rights of dignity, independence, family life. It is next on the block, and we are right there with it.

This is for the people who would otherwise toss a coin, decide in the booth or just not vote. Please vote, if not for yourself then for those of us who are waiting to find out just how much worse the next few years can get. You are part of a society and, at some point, you will either be or care about someone who is disabled and who needs the support and access rights which are threatened by this vote. If there is nothing in this debate which has convinced you, please let it be this. Please don’t let our country’s apathy or indecision lead to another morning like that terrible one last May. Please.

As a disabled person, currently fighting unjust and illegal cuts to my benefits, I am seriously considering the possibility seeking political asylum in another EU country should the sheeple vote to leave.
Just based on statistics so far, it is fairly clear that my life would be endangered by remaining in this country without the restraint that the EU places on the current regime.

You could certainly give it a try – and try to get as much publicity for it as possible.

Even for those selfish people who care only for their own profit and false pride leaving would be a huge mistake, but for those who care for fairness for all, for the care of their loved ones, the friendship of our EU neighbours, leaving would be a disaster. We have all seen, although some would deny it, the control that the Conservatives want to exert over the very people they should be serving, and leaving the EU would be playing right into their greedy hands as, without the benefit of the Court of Human Rights to fall back on, there would be no recourse to correct the injustices and domination of this party; a party which wishes to continue to dominate and rule for the very rich at the expense of those in need.

In financial terms, leaving the EU will severely damage our exports and cost jobs in practically every industry. We have been part of Europe for many years and have enjoyed far more benefits than losses and, unless we want to commit financial and political suicide, we need to realize that by working together we have so much more to gain than to lose.

I do not hear the comments of hate or dislike that are being posted by so many Brexiteers in the UK being reiterated by our close friends (human-beings like us) in the EU.

Hate, bigotry and false self-pride are our worst enemies.
