Could the UK’s forthcoming departure from the European Union have anything to do with this, after the SNP’s appeal to the EU for special treatment was turned down?

Former first minister Alex Salmond has suggested a second referendum on Scottish independence could be held in two years time.

In a column in the National newspaper, he said he has “little doubt” the “next test is coming”.

He said that his “guess” on timing is that “it is likely to be the autumn of 2018”.

Opposition parties pointed out that the SNP previously said the independence referendum was “once in a generation”.

The original referendum was “once in a generation”, but since then circumstances have changed so drastically that a second Independence referendum is inevitable.

Not to mention the fact that “once in a generation” was only ever someone’s own opinion at the time, never a “vow” from the SG as the media all screech.

In any case, Salmond now has no say on when a 2nd IndyRef might be held, so this is again only his personal opinion so not worth fashing about.

But they haven’t, not yet. Who knows what the future holds? Why does our leaving that particular institution have to be the end of the world?

Highly unlikely there will be any referendum for Scottish independence in the near future, no matter how often salmond and sturgeon claim it will happen. Scotland are not in the eu the UK is, out of the UK is out of the eu, and that would have been the case if they had won the last one.
