Fair play to the Huffington Post for following up the allegations in Pride’s Purge, reported here yesterday, and getting a response from Channel 4.

Unfortunately for the HuffPost, the tagline – “Does it ‘weaken the validity’ of evidence against Momentum?” – isn’t really necessary as there was practically no evidence to be seen.

Viewers tuned in expecting to see proof of all the claims that have been made against Momentum and Jeremy Corbyn’s campaign generally since before the so-called ‘Chicken Coup’ in the Labour Party began at the end of June.

Instead – well, Paul Mason got it about right:

The allegations Dispatches did manage to make – of a left-wing attempt to take over the Labour Party – were weak and don’t stand up to scrutiny.

A few thousand people trying to sway more than half a million?

I’ll publish a full report on the programme later – possibly alongside a few observations about Owen Smith’s campaign.

Responding to the allegations, a Channel 4 spokesperson responding on behalf of Films of Record told HuffPost UK: “Channel 4 has a remit to deliver high quality news and current affairs, and a track record for investigative journalism and holding those in power to account.

“Films of Record is an award winning and experienced producer of high quality current affairs programming. The content is a product of unbiased journalism.

“The Battle For Labour is a vital piece of investigative journalism, on an issue of critical national importance to everyone in the UK particularly in a period of political flux.”

Sounds great but they completely overlooked the underhanded tricks by the right wing of the party in blocking members from voting and meetings behind closed door, this never got discussed and why some of us want to replace our mps for their disregard of real democracy!

I’ve yet to see the programme so, I can’t comment, however, Channel 4 News was the first programme to expose the Tory vote expenses thing. It would be a real shame if the channel had lost its objectivity and impartiality.
