Campaign launched to defend welfare state, from Cradle To The Grave

Grassroots campaigners have come together to highlight the violation and systematic abuse of the human rights of those who unfortunately have to rely on the state for health and financial assistance.

The ‘Cradle To The Grave’ campaign intends to stop the demolition of the welfare state as we know it.

The welfare state has provided support to millions of people who have fallen on hard times and provided them with a safety net until their lives were improved, across the generations since World War II.

In recent years, this has been seen as a negative thing, with those needing support seen as a burden to the state and the taxpayer. But it is natural that, with people living longer and population growth over the decades, costs have risen.

But campaigners believe we should not allow the welfare state to be demolished in the name of an ideologically-driven policy of austerity by the elite, that removes the safety net from the poorest in society.

The top one per cent of earners have seen their wealth grow at a phenomenal rate while the rest of the population has to pay the price for the global banking crisis of 2008, which they did not cause.

“It is our intention as a grassroots movement to make the public aware of what is happening, to prevent our numerous political figures from continuing to remove the safety net needed by so many, and to preserve it for generations to come,” said a campaign spokesperson.

“Our aim is to publicly crowdfund this collaboration between Black Triangle Campaign and Cross Border Alliance in the hope that the people still believe in what they were told when the welfare state was created by Nye Bevan. That is, we were promised ‘a welfare state from the cradle to the grave’.

“In recent times this has been under serious threat and is almost gone unless the people fight to retain it.

“We will lose it in the next few years and we will have a society where, if you can pay, you will survive but, if you cannot, your chances of surviving are slim. We cannot allow this to continue. It will return us to Dickensian times.

“Our aim is to fund a poster in every town and city to accompany our website at http://www.cradle2grave.co.uk/, where you can find out more of what has been happening to the welfare state and how to save it.

“You never can tell what is around the corner in life. At the blink of an eye, our lives can be turned upside down.”

Organisers have thanked director Ken Loach and screenwriter Paul Laverty for supporting the campaign.

They have urged everyone to see the director and screenwriter’s latest film – I, Daniel Blake – which highlights many issues faced today by those who are depending on the safety net to stop them falling through the cracks in modern society.

The film is on general release in the UK from October 21.

Commissioning is the privatised national health.

I fail to see the relevance of that comment.

Mike I thought I would bring something to your attention.
I have recently, 2 weeks ago, had a double tooth extraction. It had since become infected and I am diabetic. The dentist I am with (Oasis) are fully aware of this, they have told me that I am only allowed 3 treatments for this infection. If the infection goes on (which it is) I am not allowed to be treated for it again!!! As a result I am in so much agony that I am feeling suicidal. I don’t know what to do anymore because I am halfway through the whole treatment, but I can’t even think about having more teeth extracted, which needs to happen for my health.

Get yourself to your doctor as an emergency and demand help.

I will, thank you Mike, though I might have to go to hospital instead because doctors won’t intervene with dental treatments, unless that has changed. I will find out today if possible.

I would have thought the main concern was your susceptibility to infection due to being diabetic. That’s what you say to your doctor.

Fully agree Mike the GP would have to treat the infection even thought it emanated form a tooth extraction and he would have dar more information on someones health status than a dentist would.

If it were up to the tories, there’d be nothing left of anything, let alone a welfare state!
