There will be no crackdown on worker exploitation. Tories LOVE it too much

The issue of worker exploitation has risen up the political and news agendas over the past year, so the Tories are paying lip-service to the idea of stopping it. They won’t do anything, though. [Image: Kevin Fleming/Getty].

Don’t expect this initiative to do any more than pay lip service to the concept of dealing with this issue.

Tories like exploiting workers. Their entire industrial policy since 1976 has been to weaken working people and make them vulnerable to exploitation.

That’s why they destroyed British industry.

That’s why they weakened the trade unions.

That’s why they privatised public assets and sold them off to foreign, state-owned firms.

It is the only explanation that fits the evidence.

Now, Sir David Metcalf has been asked – not to tackle worker exploitation directly, but to work out a new way for three regulatory organisations to work together.

Nothing in his brief asks him to devise a way to crack down on worker exploitation.

So there will be no crackdown.

This is an empty gesture.

The government has moved to crack down on unscrupulous employers by appointing a new boss to lead the collection of government bodies tasked with stamping out exploitation in the workplace.

Prof Sir David Metcalf, a founding member of the Low Pay Commission and former chairman of the Migration Advisory Committee, was named on Thursday as the first director of Labour Market Enforcement

He will be devising a new strategy on how three bodies – the Gangmasters and Labour Abuse Authority (GLAA), the Employment Agency Standards Inspectorate (EAS) and HM Revenue and Customs’s national minimum wage enforcement team – share information and work together.

Feels like the british branch of the Globalist has already started its murky work.

Will his brief include the exploitation of the unemployed and disabled who are forced to work to qualify for their unemployment benefit; which is far below minimum wage rates!

To Blame the tories for destroying British industry is only fair if you blame Ted Heath for dumping us into the so called Common market at which time it was agreed we would cut down our industrial base as part of the terms of membership, something labour rightly objected to and was opposed to in 1972, unfortunately todays labour mp’s are not the same variety, or calibre, of those in the early 70’s and they are equally as opposed to industries regaining their rightful position in Britain.

      You are lying.
I have already told you your belief was mistaken. You have refused to accept this or research it to find the facts.
      Therefore, you are deliberately lying.
Nobody at the EU (which didn’t even exist in the 1970s when Ted Heath was PM; it was the EEC) ever forced the UK to cut down its industrial base – certainly not as part of the terms of membership.
Do not repeat that lie on this site again.

The Tories just don’t care, and they don’t even care that we know they don’t care!

Workers on “zero-hour” contracts should be paid “call-out” charges.

I think “Retainer” would be a better description. A retainer is a basic wage that covers NI and enough to eat – currently anyone earning very little on a ZHC can apply for housing benefit and CT relief to cover housing costs. Not perfect but better than what many on ZHCs have to face.
