Trump National Guard plan to round up immigrants is indeed un-American. It’s very 1940s German, though

Last Updated: February 17, 2017By

This image is actually from a different story about someone photographically cutting Donald Trump down to size – but the revised image probably reflects his stature in the view of the American public right now.

So let’s get this straight: The memo was definitely written by John Kelly, and it definitely proposed using the US National Guard to round up “undocumented” (by which I take it they mean illegal) immigrants into the United States.

Doesn’t that mean Sean Spicer was pushing a lie when he said the claim that this happened was “100 per cent false”?

And that’s not even touching on the outrage in the States at the fact that the Trump administration could have even considered dragging people out of their homes and away to who-knows-what kind of existence.

The image it evokes is probably a little too close to that of Nazis rooting German and Polish Jews out of their homes and off to the camps.

What? Too soon?

Let’s just not get into a situation where you all end up talking about how prophetic I was. Again.

Democrats, civil rights groups and activists have reacted with outrage and confusion to the news that new Department of Homeland Security (DHS) secretary John Kelly wrote a draft memo to propose using 100,000 National Guard troops to round up undocumented immigrants.

The report was quickly disputed by White House press secretary Sean Spicer who said it was “100 per cent false”.

The acting press secretary for the DHS, Gillian Christensen [said]: “The Department is not considering mobilising the National Guard.”

It was not disputed, however, that the memo had been drafted by Mr Kelly and was possibly discussed in the White House as part of President Donald Trump’s anti-immigrant agenda.

Unfortunately, the US also has history of doing this. Executive order 9066 led to the internment of Japanese Americans without due process of law and confiscation of property. Internees were held at places like Manzanar and Thule Lake.

This is one of those imponderables, Trump wants to remove illegal immigrants, can anyone really argue that they are there illegally by definition? There was probably some discussion as to whether the current service can cope, clearly not if they are not catching these people who should not be in the country, and ideas were floated to as to how the agency could be helped. The national guard was most likely considered to be the easiest group to mobilise, and guide towards this assistance position, nothing to do with nazi germany no matter how hard some people want to make out that Trump is the second coming of Hitler.

Your argument supports the parallel with Nazi Germany.

    A truly scary prospect.
As an aside, Never forget that Trump is part German and part Scottish.
If Wikipedia is to be believed, his Scots mother lied about her naturalsation status in 1940, so if illegals were rounded up in the USA then, she would have been incarcerated,
