‘Free meals’ furore is between two parties who are as bad as each other

Food Fight: The meal which has sparked a political row in Pendle.

How does their own guidance tell Liberal Democrats to behave during campaigns, again?

Ah, yes,

It tells them to “Be wicked, act shamelessly, stir endlessly.”

So when we see the Lancashire Telegraph telling us the Lib Dems have claimed a Tory event breached voting rules, I think we can tell that they are following their guidelines closely.

That’s not to exonerate the Conservatives in any way. Tories are under investigation for nearly 30 instances of electoral fraud during the 2015 general election, and therefore are believed to have a track record with regard to breaking the rules.

Handing voters free meals and asking them to vote for a particular party is known as “treating”, and this is what the Lib Dems are saying the Tories have been doing in Nelson, Lancashire.

It is right that Pendle’s electoral registration officer will meet police to launch an investigation into the allegations.

Considering the circumstances, it would probably be in the best interests of all involved if the electorate votes for Labour in May.

As far as many Tories are concerned laws are for others and don’t apply to them. I hope this investigation proceeds faster than the systematic election expenses fraud for which the Tories are under Police investigation.
