Corbyn’s duty is clear: Get the naysayers out of the way and put up a decent left-wing alternative to the Tories

Last Updated: March 7, 2017By

In case anybody has forgotten: Jeremy Corbyn has more support than any other UK political leader.

This Independent piece by Matthew Turner has it exactly right: If Jeremy Corbyn is to make any headway he must eliminate his critics within the party – who aren’t representative of members’ opinions anyway – and mount a strong ideological opposition to the Tories.

The vast majority of Corbyn’s critics are yet to come up with any meaningful solutions to the problems that we face – the few solutions that have been offered thus far are simply not grounded in reality.

The truth is that most of the so-called “moderates” in the Labour Party know what the solution is – they just don’t want to acknowledge it.

The only way Corbyn can succeed… is by taking the sharp left turn that he was elected to do.
The people also need to see an authoritative and relentless streak that has so far been absent from his leadership.

In short, Corbyn must fight back. He needs to take control of the party before he can take control of the country, otherwise he is nothing but a sitting duck.

One of the ways this can be achieved is through enabling the democratic right of CLPs to reselect and deselect their parliamentary candidates, and organising in order to ensure that young, up and coming, “fire in the belly” left wingers replace those who are actively seeking to undermine the Labour Party under Jeremy Corbyn.

how would you do that mike in getting rid of those that do not support Jeremy Corbyn?
i cant see how as they have been elected and if you banned them who could possibly replace them?

The Labour Party has more than 600,000 members, Nick. Nobody is irreplaceable.
The process for removing MPs as candidates in future elections is laid out in the article: CLPs deselect them.

Going Down. membership not renewing after last years shenanighans. Labour kept the numbers by keeping the money and subs but removing the member, and many banned for years from applying to become a Labour member.

You cannot hold on to this figure. .

Yes, there has been some natural wastage in the membership, and some have left because of the behaviour of certain disreputable right-wingers who have embedded themselves in the organisation.
On the whole, though, Labour is doing fine – thank you very much.

As an aside, It would appear that Thatcher’s puppy William Hague has inadvertently agreed with you.
He has suggested an early election because it “would catch the Labour Party in its worst condition since the early 30s, and with its least credible leader ever”.

Surely that also suggests he believes that Labour would otherwise get stronger and be a much greater threat to Tories in the future?

Fully agree it is the responsibility of the CLP’s to get rid of the centre right dead wood who not only are not true Labour supporters although they got the job as M.P., and think they can ignore what their electorate actually thought they were voting for.

It would seem that this authoritative and relentless streak is not within him, for he is a pacifist and a democrat. I do agree that he needs to be tough but I’m not sure that it chimes with him, ideologically. People are afraid of the £eft Wing and I’m not sure why. The Andrew Marr Show, on Sunday was very interesting; listening to Paul Nutall, one could have been mistaken for thinking that he was talking about the £abour Party; 2 leadership elections, fights within the party, disunity, media lies; “just because, you know, you tell a lie often enough doesn’t make it the truth.” “£ook, there is a narrative out there, which is being spun by media outlets that have political motivations to see U.K.I.P. destroyed.” Does anybody recognise that? Très intéressant…
