George Osborne’s appointment as new Evening Standard editor can only be good – for the SOCIAL MEDIA

Last Updated: March 17, 2017By

This Writer is delighted that the unqualified George Osborne has been named as the new editor of the London Evening Standard.

He has no journalistic qualifications, therefore his appointment means everybody in need of a job can now apply for any job going, no matter what the stated requirements may be – and justify it with the words “George Osborne”. It means all jobs are now open to everyone.

(I know. Employers would turn down unqualified applications in exactly the same way they do now – but if Mr Osborne becoming editor of the Standard leads to an increase in such job requests, it might encourage them all to think again before giving high-profile, big-money jobs to performing monkeys like our ex-Chancellor.)

And, of course, this heralds a new era of nonsense-masquerading-as-news from the mainstream media, of which the Standard has been, well, a standard-bearer. In fact, we know that mass media news reporting has been a mess, hugely biased towards right-wing politics, for many years now – but there could be no louder way to confirm it than by appointing Osborne as a newspaper editor.

The announcement has created the opportunity for a moment of solidarity among all sides of the Labour Party. Even This Writer can agree with Wes Streeting’s comment that the announcement would go down “like a cold bucket of sick”.

And how did the social media react? Here are some great Twitter responses:

In fact, it seems only one person outside the Standard‘s corporate structure was willing to welcome Mr Osborne’s appointment:

What the blazes did Sadiq Khan think that would achieve?

What does this mean for the future of the news in the UK?

It means you should get your news from This Site, from The Canary, from Skwawkbox, and from other social media sites. Avoid the mainstream like the plague because all you’ll get from now on is silly right-wing propaganda.

Former Chancellor George Osborne has been appointed editor of the London Evening Standard newspaper.

The BBC’s media editor Amol Rajan said Mr Osborne intended to stay on as MP for Tatton, in Cheshire.

The paper said Mr Osborne, who was sacked as chancellor after Theresa May became prime minister in July, would edit it “four days a week”.

Mr Osborne had ambitions to be a journalist as a young man. He failed to get a place on The Times‘ trainee scheme after graduating from Oxford University in 1992 and was briefly a freelance reporter on the Daily Telegraph‘s diary column.

That should guarantee fake government news gets a good write up….more than most of the others are doing for the Cons. With such greed and accumulation of jobs that should at least keep his parliamentary seat out of harms way and his voters can go without his wisdom and professional assistance. How any company can see any value in this failed hooray henry is beyond me. Obviously yet another compensation job for the boys.

It will be interesting to see exactly how he reports the forthcoming Tory election expenses frauds, presuming of course he isn’t in the dock himself.

Yeah “four days a week” because as we know, the fifth day he is working for a bank (Β£650,000 a year for 50 days work) and on the sixth day he is writing those after dinner speech’s for the corporate jollies. Must be great being part of the gig economy for him, and especially for his constituents who apparently pay him a full time Β£74k wage for ….. Nothing?

PS I hope there are no MPs expenses put in for those days he’s at the Standard, eh?

Payback time for services rendered or maybe it was compensation for being sacked.

Didn’t the Evening Standard pay attention to the last job Osborne had for which he was entirely unqualified? I kinda feel they are made for each other as the ES is clearly as dense as Osborne.

Why should any employer pay Β£650K per annum(for 50 days’ work) during an era of zero-hour contracts?

I just read it in the Standard. If this is somebody’s idea of a joke, I’m still waiting for the punchline. There’s possibly a reference to it in Saint Paul’s Revelation, I can’t be sure but this is really looking like the Β£ast Days are upon us.

Can (Old Etonian) Osborne actually write properly? Remember, this is the man who came up with the “scrounger-striver speech”. As an aristocrat, is he planning to employ a butler to do his work? What a waste of space!
