Investigation into whether Theresa May’s husband corruptly profited from Brexit

Last Updated: May 2, 2017By

Philip and Theresa May. Last December it was reported that she planned to spend huge amounts of taxpayers’ money exempting him – along with other people who work in the City – from Brexit. Has this been investigated by the Propriety and Ethics team?

This could seriously harm the Conservative general election campaign:

It seems the Cabinet Office Propriety and Ethics Team has launched an inquiry into whether the company which employs Theresa May’s husband, Philip, could have potentially made large sums of money from Brexit market movements caused by her decisions.

If so, it is not only a clear conflict of interest for Mrs May, but a breach of the ministers’ code of conduct which states that “Ministers must ensure that no conflict arise, or appears to arise, between their public duties and their private interests.”

The investigation could be even more damaging to the Conservative election campaign as Mrs May claimed from the start that it would be about Brexit. The investigation has raised concerns it could really be about any profits she and her husband can make from Brexit.

David Hencke explains the situation here:

The central point of the complaint is that the Capital Group, a global investment company which manages $1.4 trillion of assets for corporations and high net worth individuals, could have had knowledge of market sensitive information that would have benefited their clients over Brexit. The situation would particularly apply to currency movements.

Philip May who works for the Capital Group, could, in theory as the PM’s husband, have had some prior knowledge of major political decisions by his wife.

He could also have recused himself from such decisions in the Capital group to prevent such a conflict. But the declaration of interests by Mrs May do not disclose his exact role and the preamble to the declaration says to disclose such details “would involve unjustifiable intrusion into the private affairs not only of Ministers, but of their close family.”

In an update to Mr Hencke’s article, the Cabinet Office has stated: “The Prime Minister has declared in full her interests and the interests of her husband. There is no conflict of interest.”

But has this been checked, or are investigators merely accepting the Mays’ word?

To This Writer’s unskilled eye, it still seem a breach of the code of conduct, as Mrs May allowed it to appear that a conflict of interest had arisen – otherwise, why would there have been an investigation?

We may hear more about this.

For some years now the Tories have hardly bothered to hide their dishonesty and dirty corruption. We must hope that with a vengeance it catches up with them ASAP.

The Cabinet Office has NOT said a thing about investigations of any sort. Which implies investigations are on-going. Otherwise, why not say ‘This matter has been investigated and…………’.

Or deny there was an investigation at all, or that one was ever mooted, in which case you equally kill it stone-dead.

Their bald statement tells us absolutely nothing & leaves a dangling thread to be picked away at.

They all do it, they have too to come out so much richer after their ‘stint’ in office than when they went in!
After all their laws are only for us to follow not them; proven many times over!

And only raised because of Brexit, if it had been about oil there wouldn’t have been a mention, they wouldn’t want to rock the leaky rotten boat they’re all in!

She will get away with it, or if she wins the election she could just change the law!!!

I started seeing rumours a couple of days ago. It concerns me that there is very little factual evidence or links to back up this story. Having seen the greed, fraud, arrogance, corruption and deceit of the Tories over the last 7 years this story is easy to believe. Myself and others are concerned that there might be a cover=up, just like there was when Dennis Thatcher was using Maggie’s position to profit his companies. The case was moderately successfully hushed up so that it did not become well know. Nowadays the Internet DOES allow information to be shared and spread. Eager to hear more about this!

Not a supporter of May or the Tories but there is a considerable amount of information missing from this story, like when exactly did the company make money from Brexit before or after May was PM? Did her husband take part in any of the dealing? and is it really an interest for May to declare? as she is not directly involved unless she is giving secret information not available to others to her husband.

Coming to the UK NOW if not already here.. If readers have 15 mins spare the url below shows how bad corruption in the USA has got and why their Government Agency swamps need draining. The FDA is supposed to look after the health of the public including the UK who also use their so called FDA approved safe products. Government corruption and agency implanting of trojan industry horses has probably started already in the UK so any smells like this UK issue needs a robust investigation….Unfortunately the press/media have forgotten how to investigate with oppressive controlling ownership telling them how high to jump etc

chances are anything the investigation finds out will be stored for future use. not used now. like the paedophile investigation. no one seems to know whats happening in that issue.
