Theresa May to reprimand Cabinet members over infighting – so what?

Last Updated: July 17, 2017By

She knows they all want to stab her in the back.

All this means is that Mrs May is joining in – but we knew that anyway, didn’t we?

And it won’t make a difference. She is a weak prime minister and will not be able to keep her employees in line.

They know that she needs every vote she can get, and they can topple her from the top job any time they like.

They’ll fight like cats in a sack because they are positioning themselves to take over.

Theresa May is to reprimand her Cabinet ministers for leaking and briefing against one another, Downing Street has said.

The Prime Minister’s spokesperson said the PM would use a meeting on Tuesday to remind her deputies that they should be “having all discussions of government policy in private”.

The intervention comes amid increasing signs of infighting amongst top Tories – with Chancellor Philip Hammond the target of several negative briefings in recent days.

The Tories are now experiencing the levels of disloyalty and malicious briefing against colleagues that marked the pre election anti Corbyn crew on the blairite wing of the Labour Party. The big difference is that May doesn’t have the support of the membership outside parliament either and so is isolated and under siege. The very set of circumstances that strengthened Corbyn’s position weakens May. However the lesson should be made apparent and drummed home to the disloyal in the Labour Party who continue to undermine and publicallybrief against the leadership.

I’m sorry for continually repeating myself but … ‘ argue all you like behind closed doors that’s what happens in a Democratic Party but if the vote goes against you then shut up and support the decision in public’. You can continue to press your line in private meetings if you like but shut the …. up and at least appear united.

She’ll have to be content with pulling one of her gruesome faces and shedding another tear of self-pity, because these nasties are busy doing what this Brexit nonsense has been about from the start, and is still all about, fighting for power within the Tory Party.

Who is surprised now that Gove is back in cabinet and his very own Lady MacGove is hovering in the background waiting to be wifey of the leader? History tells us (and some of us can remember) that Tory reigns always end in a complete shambles. Roll on the next GE.
