Divide and conquer: Torygraph uses terror as excuse to demand tougher EU border controls

European countries have introduced stricter security checks after a series of terror attacks – so a (nameless) Conservative minister has claimed it is an attack on the UK because of Brexit, according to the Daily Telegraph.

One hopes everybody can see through this nonsense.

This is a Conservative-supporting newspaper trying to drum up more opposition to the EU after yesterday’s revelation that most UK citizens believe in the bloc’s commitment to free movement between countries – meaning that there is no reason for our negotiators to reject it, and no reason for EU negotiators to stop us from staying in the Single Market (free movement was a condition of SM membership).

Divide and conquer – it’s the oldest trick in the Tory playbook. There’s no reason to believe the new restrictions are for any reason other than preventing terrorism, but they’ll use it to sow division between us and our friends on the continent.

The joy for the Tories is that they have plausible deniability; as the minister goes unnamed, we have no proof this person even exists. The whole story might by a fabrication. Fake news?

So don’t be fooled. The EU has no interest in punishing the UK – Eurocrats know we will suffer enough punishment after we leave.

British airports should bring in UK-only passport lanes in response to claims that Europe has introduced stricter security checks on holidaymakers because of Brexit, according to a minister.

Brits flying home this weekend have been advised to arrive at the airport three hours before their flight due to chaos at some of Europe’s most popular airports as a result of the new security checks.

The tougher controls were introduced in May for travellers entering and leaving the Schengen area, which allows passport-free movement across much of the EU, following a spate of terror attacks on the continent.

But a Tory minister has pointed to the number of citizens leaving to fight for Isis from Belgium, Holland and Germany.

“One wonders if this isn’t just subterfuge from EU member states, if they aren’t just trying to give us a warning that this is something that’s in store for us after Brexit. Holland, Belgium and Germany have among the highest numbers of Isil fighters,” the MP told the Daily Telegraph.

“Should we be putting extra controls on them?

“We should consider British-only lanes in the UK if they want to behave like that. Border controls should be based on reciprocal relationships.”

The Torygraph is no better than the Daily Mail, Sun and Express. A reactionary rag which hardens the already unpleasant reactionary views of right-wing bigots.

Yesterdays elevation in the pro eu Independent, :- The major survey by the EU Commission was conducted through face-to-face interviews in May 2017 and a total of 33,180 people participated across the member states. So it was the pro eu commission conducting a poll across all member states of only 33,180 citizens, hardly a revelation that Brits are all for continuing the freedom of movement is it? More like another bit of fake propaganda from the losers.

Do you know how many people you need to ask, to get a good indication of a national mood?
      Very few.
That’s why survey companies like YouGov (or any of them – choose whichever one you like) ask around 1,000 people. It’s all they need.
