While Theresa May waffles about quitting the EU, the British public now want to stay

I’ll just leave this here, on the day after Theresa May’s hopelessly misjudged Brexit speech.

If the EU referendum was held again, Remain would win, according to a new poll.

The British public have turned their backs on the idea of Brexit just as Theresa May heads to Florence to make a key speech on her plans for a post-European future.

The new poll shows that the results would flip, with 52 per cent now backing staying put, and 48 backing leaving, a little over a year since the landmark decision was made, the poll by BMG for The Independent says.

When the same poll was conducted two months ago there was a 50:50 split. The poll surveyed over 1,400 Britons.

The poll was of only 1,400 people there was no indication of who was polled where were they polled, and what question was actually asked, to extrapolate a position from such pitiful data is the sort of thing we should leave to the pro eu mass media, rather than pay any heed to it.

It’s from a reputable organisation and the results would have been from a group that is representative of the country as a whole. The sample size is also enough.

Personally, I don’t believe there ever was a majority in favour of leaving. As one who campaigned for the “Remain” side I and others with me came across countless numbers of people who just wanted to give Cameron a kicking (some could not be persuaded that it wasn’t the time to be doing that) and others who actually believed the barefaced lie on the side of the bus. Even the “Leave” side have admitted that it was that lie which swung it marginally in their favour.

How can they know that? It was a binary referendum and there was bunkum on both sides.

I definitely think we should re-run the referendum in the light of knowledge instead of lies. Even Farage admits that he wouldn’t have left it at that, had the vote gone narrowly to Remain.

      What knowledge?

Sorry Mike, you and the Poll are wrong. The People want to Leave. They have spoken. This is true for all time; once the people have spoken it is set in stone for all time and can never be altered.

The above is what countless Brexiters seem to think!

Only down side I can see of staying in, would be that we’r have to put up with listening to more BS from the idiot Farage.

Please read BMG’s own caveat in relation to this poll: “at this stage readers should treat the results with caution. The narrow Remain lead is within the poll’s margin of error, +/- 2.5 percentage points, where we can be confident that that the actual results falls. This means that, as for most polling results published at this time, both sides are effectively “neck and neck”. Indeed, statistically speaking it is entirely possible, from these results, that Leave is slightly ahead.”

I don’t trust the polls and no more information about the E.U. has been disseminated so, I find it a moot point. If the public were better informed, such polls might carry more weight but the way that I see it, nothing has changed and my reasons for voting the way that I did have not changed. What is the point in having such polls if the public is still largely ignorant about the subject? How many people know the first thing about the E.U., how it works, what it does, what it’s supposed to do? If certain politicians are convinced that we should stay, why are they not telling the public why? Why are they no championing the E.U.? I’m sorry but all that I hear is fear and I refuse to be mastered by it. Where is the proper debate? If you want a divorce, you don’t decide to stay married, because you don’t like the settlement.
You may recall that, during the referendum campaign, I wrote to several M.P.s, both official campaign groups, the £abour Party and my local M.P. who was, at the time, the Minister For Europe and asked specific questions. I have yet to receive an answer to a single one. The response that I got from the £abour person was that he didn’t know. I have since written to both Tim Farron and Vince Cable, asking the same questions. Answer came there none.
