Theresa May accused of covering up secret Priti Patel meetings | Business Insider

Theresa May faces allegations of a cover-up after reports that Downing Street deliberately suppressed and made false claims about its knowledge of Priti Patel’s secret meetings with senior Israeli figures.

Downing Street denies this and insists that the first the prime minister knew about the International Development Secretary’s meetings was last Friday.

According to the Jewish Chronicle’s editor Stephen Pollard:

“Far from being unaware, Number 10 knew in full about her meeting with Mr Netanyahu, because Ms Patel had discussed it with the Prime Minister in September, prior to the UN General Assembly.

“I then discovered this morning that Number 10 had been told by Ms Patel about her meeting with Israeli foreign office official Yuval Rotem in New York and had specifically asked her not to include it.

“It is a truism that with most scandals, the real fallout comes from the cover up. My revelations today mean that there are some serious questions for Number 10 to answer about who knew what, when – including the PM.”

Laura Keunnesberf had also tweeted about the JC article, which kind of suggests the story has some credibility.

Personally, I suspect that both Patel and May have been telling barefaced lies. It would be interesting to see how Patel’s “holiday” was booked, and if she claimed any remuneration in respect of expenses etc.

A weak PM and a cunning, overly ambitious Sec. for Overseas Development. No matter who knew what when, it was a recipe for disaster. I am not inclined to believe anything Priti Patel says with her record, or her allies in the Israeli government under the ultra devious Netanyahu. (and I’m definitely no apologist for Theresa May.) I stand to be corrected.

The whole affair is too odd NOT to be suspicious. May has always been known to be highly secretive, distrusting and devious. May knew, and once found out Patel had to be the sacrificial lamb, in exchange for nice severance pay, and a promise from the 1922 Committee to ensure a top job once May is consigned to the dustbin.
