Tory MP claimed £17,000 expenses he did not deserve

Smug: The poster should read ‘Keep calm and punch him’.

Conservative MP has been reimbursed for more than £17,000 of expenses claims, despite Parliamentary authorities admitting he should not have been entitled to the payments.

Philip Hollobone claimed for the London Area Living Payment (LALP) while also being reimbursed for travel costs between his Kettering constituency and Parliament, a combination which is not allowed under the expenses scheme. However, he will not be forced to pay back the bill because the watchdog admitted that it should have picked up on the error earlier.

Wow, they make a mistake and don’t want to claim any over payments back, such a caring government unless it’s an over payment on your “Benefits” which they will go to the highest court in the land to claw it back. Why is the “Hard working Taxpayer” accepting this? Paying those who can’t do their job seems a bit wrong to me, we should all be demanding he pays it all back, after all they admit they were wrong, what’s so hard about asking for it back?

These so-called Parliamentary watchdogs are almost useless. As I see it this character is no more than yet another Tory fraudster. The Fraud Squad should subject him to a thorough investigation.

So when the DWP make a mistake and they overpay someone, they will allow them to keep all the money and wont send the bailiffs in to recoup the losses the DWP made in error? Will they heck as like, they’ll hound the person and stop all benefits.proving once again that there is one rule for monied Tories and Tory MPs and another for ordinary people.

This is not good enough. If I was overpaid anything from government I would be expected to repay it, and he should be expected to as well.

had that been any one of us this happened to we would not only have to pay it back ,even if it meant we lost everything, but more than likely, at that amount, be charged with fraud as well with a possible prison sentence

… but overpaid Benefits can be collected retrospectively? Tax? The rules are clear. Is it not HIS responsibility to make sure that his expenses are accurate? Does the onus not rest with him? Has he offered to repay the money? Has he donated it to charity, say, a local food bank? What is wrong with this country? There’s no Magic Money Tree… but there is, so it would seem!
