Hypocrite Theresa May pretends she’s not a racist – but we must judge her by her actions

Theresa May: the image offers a good sense of where she belongs.

Some of you are going to find this hard to take.

Watch this, if you have the stomach for it:

You’re probably thinking of the Windrush scandal, that demonstrated ample evidence that this two-faced Tory had no interest in the well-being of anybody black.

But I want to take you back further than that, to an incident that shows she cannot claim any moral authority on the well-being of any ethnic minority.

I refer, of course, to the scandal of Theresa May’s so-called “racist vans”. I wrote an article about it entitled Xenophobia, in which I stated:

“Those of us who are lucky enough not to live in London have yet to see the amazing advertising vans that have been conveying instructions to Conservative-leaning voters, to treat with hatred, suspicion and contempt anybody who is not a white, Anglo-Saxon protestant.

“It seems clear that these vehicles are intended to promote racism and heighten racial tension, setting British citizens against each other – because the aim is to encourage the suspicion that another person may be an illegal immigrant – in the same way Coalition policy on social security set citizens against each other by pretending it was commonplace for individuals to receive more in benefits than in paid work.

“According to the Public Order Act 1986, it is an offence for a person to publish threatening, abusive or insulting material if this is intended to stir up hatred against any group in the UK, defined by reference to colour, race, nationality, citizenship or ethnic or national origins, or if it is likely to stir up hatred with regard to all the circumstances.

“The Criminal Justice and Public Order Act of 1994 added an offence of intentional harassment – that it is an offence to use threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour, intending to cause a person harassment, alarm or distress. There is a defence that the conduct of the accused was reasonable. This Act was introduced by Michael Howard, who spoke in favour of the advertising vans on the BBC’s Any Questions on Friday.

“The Unite union has been seeking legal advice about whether the Home Office-sponsored vans – running a week-long ‘pilot’ scheme that could be expanded to the entire country – incited racial hatred, which implies that their message was intended for domestic consumption, rather than for the benefit (sorry) of illegal aliens.

“The message on the vans reads as follows: “In the UK illegally? GO HOME OR FACE ARREST. Text HOME to [a number] for free advice and help with travel documents.”

“A stamp in the top-right corner reads: “106 arrests last week in your area.”

“The Home Office Twitter account spent the week-long pilot period tweeting messages about the number of illegal immigrants it wished to claim had been detected or turned themselves in – and even transmitted photographs of suspects in a move that is certain to undermine claims that it was not trying to incite hatred.

“And spot-checks have been taking place at railway stations, where people who were notably not white were stopped, apparently at random, by immigration officers wearing stab vests who demanded to see identification proving they were in the UK legally. It seems they became unreasonably aggressive when asked what right they had to behave like this without direct cause for suspicion.

“Immigration minister Mark Harper has rejected claims that people were targeted because of their race, confirming that the law demands that officers need reason to believe an offence had been committed before stopping anybody.

“He said the street operations “involved immigration officers talking to people in the local area and, where there was a reason to do so, asking questions in relation to immigration status”. Are we to take it, then, that his underlings were inviting local people to act as informants, ‘dobbing in’ people they suspected (or possibly, simply didn’t like and wanted to put into trouble)?

“Harper’s argument was severely undermined when he admitted he could not reveal the different ethnicities of the people who were stopped, and their numbers, because it is not recorded – officials were told to take down only the names, dates of birth and nationalities of people they stopped.”

“I fundamentally believe that you should not be stopped on the streets of our country simply because of the colour of your skin,” said May, on July 9.

But seven years ago, officials were stopping people on the streets of our country precisely because of the colour of their skin – on her orders.

People only sprayed ‘Nazi’ on Nancy Astor’s statue because she was one

The statue of Nancy Astor at Plymouth Hoe – that was only unveiled last year by Theresa May – has been sprayed with the word “Nazi”.

This Writer can’t understand why that word wasn’t included on the plaque.

I wrote about it when former prime minister Theresa May unveiled the statue, quoting from Joseph Kennedy and the Jews:

“Despite her anti-Catholicism, Nancy Astor was friends with US Ambassador to Britain Joseph P. Kennedy, Sr. Their correspondence is reportedly filled with anti-Semitic language. Edward J. Renehan, Jr. notes:

“As fiercely anti-Communist as they were anti-Semitic, Kennedy and Astor looked upon Adolf Hitler as a welcome solution to both of these “world problems” (Nancy’s phrase). … Kennedy replied that he expected the “Jew media” in the United States to become a problem, that “Jewish pundits in New York and Los Angeles” were already making noises contrived to “set a match to the fuse of the world”.

She may have been the UK’s first female MP but she was an anti-Semite and a supporter of Nazis.

And that makes Theresa May a supporter of Nazism by proxy, of course. She’s the second (current) Conservative Parliamentarian This Writer has had cause to describe as a Nazi – or worse – in 24 hours.

So when people do this…

A statue of Nancy Astor, the first female MP to take her seat in parliament, has become the latest monument to be targeted by vandals.

The word ‘Nazi’ has been spray painted on the plinth of the statue, along with an Antifascist Circle, a political symbol associated with the Social Democratic Party of Germany in the 1930s.

… I have to ask:

Why would anybody complain?

Former Conservative PM Theresa May unveils statue to ‘rabid anti-Semite’ and Nazi supporter

Reverence: Former Conservative Prime Minister Theresa May unveils a statue to Nancy Astor – who was an anti-Semite.

“Our country and our democracy were changed for the better” when Nancy Astor was elected to Parliament, according to Theresa May after she unveiled a statue in her honour.

How surprising to see Mrs May giving such glowing praise to a staunch anti-Semite who supported the Nazis as a “solution” to “world problems” including Judaism as well as Communism.

For those who have trouble reading images, the text says: “Despite her anti-Catholicism, Nancy Astor was friends with US Ambassador to Britain Joseph P.

“Joseph Kennedy and the Jews”. History News Network. George Mason University. 2002″

Can you imagine the fuss if Jeremy Corbyn unveiled a statue to anyone with similarly abhorrent views?

Johnson’s Brexit would leave us worse-off than May’s – but that’s ignoring the main point

Brexiteer: Boris Johnson. Behind him is Jo Swinson, leader of the Liberal Democrats, who seems determined to help him achieve Brexit, by refusing to support a Jeremy Corbyn-led interim government.

Research by academic think tank The UK in a Changing Europe shows that Boris Johnson’s current model of Brexit will leave us worse-off than Theresa May’s.

National income would drop by the equivalent of £2,000 per person – 6.4 per cent less than if we stayed in the EU – under Mr Johnson’s offer, the think tank has claimed.

This is a worse outcome than Theresa May’s proposals (remember them?) – that would leave us all only £1,500 worse-off.

A “no deal” Brexit would be worse than both – taking £2,500 from all our incomes.

Am I the only person in the UK who can see the connection between all three proposals – that they all leave us worse-off than staying in the EU?

Why the blazes are we going ahead with this farce?

It is clearly acknowledged that leaving the European Union will damage all of us financially.

(Sure, there are plenty of people who claim this is nonsense but their evidenceless comments lack one important element: authority.)

Boris Johnson is enormously rich, so he can easily bear a loss of £2,500, I’m sure. Some of us are not in such a privileged position.

In fact, most of us would be defined as “impecunious” – having little or no money – by the likes of BoJob.

We can’t endure such a loss to our household finances; not on top of the cuts to wage and/or benefits that have already been inflicted on us by the Conservatives.

One can understand why Tories like Boris Johnson, Jacob Rees-Mogg and Nigel Farage want to take that money away from us. They need to rob us of any financial independence so we’ll accept whatever servitude they push onto us.

Why do ordinary people want to be worse-off. Do they have some kind of death wish?

Yes, the NHS has PFI debts – but put the blame where it’s due… on the TORIES

Okay, the image is a little out of date, but the message is clear: The blame for the crisis in the NHS lies squarely with the Conservative governments – of Theresa May, certainly, but also of John Major, David Cameron, and now of Boris Johnson.

The legacy of the harm done to the National Health Service by the Conservative governments of Margaret Thatcher and John Major has been brought into sharp focus by a new think tank report.

The IPPR think tank has published research showing that NHS trusts will have to pay out £55 billion to Private Finance Initiative (PFI) investors by 2050, having already paid £25 billion.

PFI was used extensively by the New Labour government of Tony Blair to bring desperately-needed investment into the NHS after the Tories bled the service dry.

Hospitals were found to be in severe disrepair and treatments badly underfunded when the Blair administration came into office in 1997, and PFI was considered the only option to restore the service to full functionality.

In total, £13 billion was invested in the NHS during the New Labour years. This will cost the service an eye-watering £80 billion by the time the contracts end in 2050.

It might have been possible to pay these off without difficulty, if Labour had stayed in power. But, as we know, that did not happen.

The Conservatives slithered back into office in 2010, supported by their nasty little yellow helpers, the Liberal Democrats, and NHS funding began to fall at once.

The introduction of private, profit-making companies into the publicly-funded health provider meant billions of pounds were siphoned off into the bank accounts of shareholders, rather than being used to treat patients.

And a huge amount of money has been used in litigation after certain private companies took to the courts to contest failures to gain contracts.

So, while the Tories have been able to claim that investment has increased, real-terms funding for the health service has fallen.

It is in this context that we see health trusts have been burdened with an obligation to use around one-sixth of their annual budgets paying off PFI debts.

It would be easy to blame New Labour for the fact that NHS trusts have been falling into debt. It would also be wrong.

New Labour did what it had to, in order to ensure continuity of care – and to keep healthcare up to date.

It was the Conservatives who forced New Labour into PFI by starving the NHS to the bone, and it is the Conservatives who are forcing the NHS into debt – once again by starving it of funds.

This is evidenced by the fact that the Department of Health has raided £4.1 billion from the NHS’s capital funding budget – which should repair the service’s buildings, build new facilities and buy new equipment – simply to pay day-to-day running costs.

Make no mistake – PFI was a bad idea when John Major introduced it to government budgeting strategies, and Tony Blair should never have been put in a position where it was the most acceptable choice to fund the NHS.

But if we’re going to blame anyone for the current situation, blame the Conservatives – because they deserve it.

The UK is a failed state. When the London School of Economics admits it, it must be true

Wreckers: First Theresa May, and now Boris Johnson, have used little-known devices to undermine the UK’s constitution – to the point where it no longer functions and the country is becoming a failed state.

Core democratic institutions have been “contaminated” by Tory politicians who have rigged the system, leaving the UK’s unwritten constitution in tatters, according to the LSE.

Read:

The control of power has become dominated by a bunch of executive tricks, and an uncodified ‘constitution’ no longer provides any predictable or worthwhile constraints on government action.

Theresa May’s government demonstrated not an elite responsiveness to MPs after 2017, but instead an increasingly frenzied exploitation of a host of parliamentary micro-institutions to bulldoze the May-Whitehall compromise Brexit deal through a reluctant Commons where government policies had no majority.

This was the curtain raiser for the Johnson government’s more grand-scale effort to unilaterally rework the UK constitution so as to give the PM ‘governance by decree’ powers.

“Governance by decree” powers would be similar to the Enabling Act that gave Adolf Hitler the ability to pass laws without the consent of the German Parliament, back in 1933.

The Johnson government (advised by Cummings who is openly contemptuous of parliamentary government) has now sculpted from the equally obscure prerogative powers surrounding the prorogation of Parliament a superficially bland but deeply toxic disabling of the Commons for 35 of the 61 days remaining to avoid a no-deal Brexit.

The timings involved are clearly tailored to frustrate any efforts of a fragmented opposition to concert an effective counter-action before September 10 or after 14 October, while yet bringing a Commons tied hand and foot back in time to witness but almost certainly unable to prevent a ‘no deal’ outcome on the 31st.

That the Queen and her constitutional advisors accepted this proposal at its face value is yet another nail in the coffin of the old constitution, with the monarch’s vestigial capacity even to ‘advise and warn’ now obliterated and shown up as a fiction, for the meanest of partisan exigencies.

The author of the piece, Patrick Dunleavy, clearly accepts that the prorogation of Parliament is intended to render it powerless to prevent Dictator Johnson’s plan.

Instead of great decisions resting on the clearly expressed will of Parliament, or the consultation of voters via a second referendum or a general election, a minority government and a PM that no one has elected are apparently set on achieving their will by converting to their purposes a swarm of micro-institutions of which almost all voters, and most constitutional ‘experts’ have little or no knowledge.

Johnson’s manoeuvre must cause a further delegitimization of government, risking a spectrum of severely adverse developments that might include significant civil disobedience, some public order turmoil, a weakening of ‘tax discipline’ (‘no taxation without representation’), and in short order the break-up of the UK.

Source: After the prorogation coup, what’s left of the British constitution? | British Politics and Policy at LSE

May bids farewell – can’t she just clear off?

Theresa May: Good riddance.

Don’t you hate all this false reverence toward someone who has been a complete failure.

Theresa May has wasted three years of our lives. Can’t she just go?

That’s really all I have to say about her. I don’t expect to have to write anything more about her and certainly won’t report on her farewell speech.

The best we can expect from that is that she manages to get through it without choking.

Theresa May has faced MPs’ questions for the final time before Boris Johnson becomes prime minister.

Later, she will deliver a farewell speech in Downing Street before Mr Johnson takes power.

Theresa May accused Jeremy Corbyn of racism and got what she deserved

This is Theresa May’s attitude to people who belong to an ethnic minority.

Oh dear. Oh very dearie me indeed.

I wonder which ill-advised advisor told Tory Theresa May at Prime Minister’s Questions to ignore the first inquiry from Jeremy Corbyn and tackle him over the fabricated nonsense about an anti-Semitism epidemic in the Labour Party? If you didn’t see it, here she is:

You go girl!

(No, seriously, you have to go, girl. You just made the worst mockery of yourself that could possibly happen, for the reason elucidated by Ian Davies.)

There was a huge response to this – partly fuelled by Yr Obdt Srvt:

The SNP’s Commons leader, Ian Blackford, took issue with Mrs May over her flagrant hypocrisy.

Yes indeed:

Oh, and by the way…

Stewart knocked out of Tory leader race as MPs signal support for ANOTHER racist PM

Tory tribalism really is coming out in the current leadership election.

In today’s (June 19) third round of votes, Conservative MPs rejected the diplomatic approach of Rory Stewart in favour of the statesmanship of a man who, in the words of SNP leader Ian Blackford:

  • Published a poem stating that the Scottish people are a “verminous” race that should be placed in ghettos and exterminated;
  • Called Muslim women “letter boxes”; and
  • Described African people as having “watermelon smiles”

That man is Boris Johnson. He gained 17 votes on yesterday’s poll, totalling 143 – while Mr Stewart lost 10, amassing only 27*.

Mr Johnson has also been accused of:

  • Cheating on his partner(s)
  • Helping a friend get a journalist beaten up
  • Wasting millions of taxpayer pounds on London water cannon and a Garden Bridge that never got built; and
  • Denouncing Tory donors by saying “f**k business”.

This is the man nearly half of Conservative MPs say should be prime minister.

Lunacy.

Can you picture him trying to face down Jeremy Corbyn over the allegations of different forms of racism in their parties? Mr Corbyn has been accused, yes – but falsely. The evidence against Mr Johnson is damning – and available for all to see.

He’ll never be able to make an appearance in front of a wide cross-section of the general public because they’ll be chanting “racist!” and “sexist!” at him.

And if he restricts his public appearances to a carefully-selected few members of the elite, then he’ll be pilloried in exactly the same way Theresa May’s image suffered during the 2017 general election campaign.

Mrs May was, of course, overtly racist herself – in her infamous “hostile environment” policies that targeted people belonging to ethnic minorities for deportation.

Of course, for political commentators like This Writer, he’ll be a dream come true.

For the duration of what I expect will be a historically short and disastrous premiership.

*By the way, Jeremy Hunt, Michael Gove and Sajid Javid are still in the race, too – not that anybody cares.

Have YOU donated to my crowdfunding appeal, raising funds to fight false libel claims by TV celebrities who should know better? These court cases cost a lot of money so every penny will help ensure that wealth doesn’t beat justice.
