I already know this to be true, alas!
The Workhouse in the town in which I live did not close until the late 1940s and, apparently, some Tories were furious that these disgusting and degrading institutions should be closed at all..
Well, well, well, no surprises there then! As Serco has won a multi-million pound contract to run the UK as a Victorian-themed park, (which is a farce), will they also have tourists tour the workhouses to see how the other half live? Totally agree with jaynelinney.
