DWP minister Hoban gets JSA amount WRONG – and jobseeking unaffordable

Last Updated: August 20, 2013By

This is an excellent piece on the Skwawkbox blog, revealing the considerable shortfall between the benefits received by jobseekers and the amount of money they would reasonably expect to pay out if they were to carry out the duties expected of them by the government.
The article sums up by declaring that we are living under a “robber-government”.

Well I can only speak for myself but here goes:Income £280 per month JSA, £220 Housing Benefit, Outgoings: £350 rent = £37-50 per week for food, travel to JCP, job interviews, gas/electric and food. Let’s see if IDS can manage on that!

You mentioned food twice but hopefully people will get the message rather than use that to undermine it.

The hole letter is a load of rubbish…….for starters I was told by a job centre employee and a work coach from Interserver (Flagship work programme) that my JSA is not for living expenses or bills or that kind of thing and that its only provided to me so I may look for work, so essentially I am supposed to be living on nothing but fresh air according to them.

I think a lot of re-training is in order.
