Mail misleads on ‘sperm bank for lesbians’

The Mail on Sunday has run a headline claiming the NHS is funding a sperm bank for “LESBIANS”.

Of course, the headline is deeply and deliberately misleading, according to The Media Blog – written to feed the irrational fears and prejudices of Mail readers.

It states: “The Mail eventually admits the sperm bank will be used by “lesbians, single women… and… heterosexual couples” – meaning it’s actually just a sperm bank.”

Does anybody else think the Mail was told to do a piece attacking the National Health Service, and this was the best the reporters could manage?

To read on (and the comment about the Mail alleging that the EU intended to make people pay motor insurance for lawnmowers is pretty funny in itself), visit The Media Blog.

What sort of prejudiced half-wit thought this irrelevant headline up? Aren’t the right-wing fascists pissed off enough with immigration, single mothers, benefits claimants apparently living in luxury, and people moaning about their human rights? Now god forbid “two women being able to raise a child!” Old news. Someone needs to tell them that homosexuality was decriminalised 50 years ago… Why is this even worth a headline?

No, softening up the public to agree to privatise the NHS as it’s wasting so much money on stupid projects – what was the headline the other day about the NHS being in a critical state?? Just more of this so no one makes a fuss when they auction off every bit.
No, it’s our NHS sand as Clive Peedle says, it is underfunded but despite this functioning brilliantly.
