Tory MP Philip Hollobone about to defect to UKIP? – Pride’s Purge

Vox Political agrees with Pride’s Purge  it is entirely possible that Kettering MP Philip Hollobone is about to defect to UKIP – he’s mad as a box of frogs and therefore likely to get on very well with UKIP leader Nigel Farage, whose nickname is Mr Toad.

Speculation is mounting that Kettering MP Philip Hollobone is going to be the next Tory MP to defect to UKIP, according to Pride’s Purge.

If so, it would explain why UKIP have delayed announcing a candidate for Kettering.

And it would also explain why some Tory voters in Kettering have reported that they have been questioned by a polling company about how they would be likely to vote should Hollobone become a UKIP candidate.

Of course, Hollobone himself has denied he’s about to defect to UKIP.

Which means it’s a cert’ then.

Let’s flesh this out with a few facts about Mr Hollobone, courtesy of Wikipedia:

In February 2010, Hollobone described the wearing of burqas as like “going round wearing a paper bag over your head” and expressed his “huge sympathy” with those calling for a ban on the garments. He later introduced the Face Coverings (Regulation) Bill, which would regulate the use of facial coverings including the burka in public. Hollobone refuses to speak with constituents wearing burkas.

In 2013 Hollobone was one of four MPs who supported an “Alternative Queen’s Speech” – an attempt to show what a future Conservative government might deliver. It listed 42 barking policies including:

  • Reintroduction of the death penalty and conscription
  • Privatising the BBC
  • Banning the burka in public places
  • And preparation to leave the European Union.

It’s as though UKIP was made for him.

He has the absent-eyed stare of a Kipper, too.

To be fair, one does not need to be as mad as a box of frogs to dislike the burkha. Unless the wearer has a seriously injured face that needs covering up, it’s demeaning to women. And can also be misused for crime.

Disliking something is entirely different to banning it.

As an MP, he should represent every constituent, yet he refuses even to talk to anybody wearing a burkha. That is dereliction of duty right there.
Hollobone’s attempts to ban the burkha are documented in the article. So what, exactly, is your point?

Having watched Hollowbrain’s performances during debates I suspect the Tories would be glad to be rid of him.

It worries me a great deal that our political system can enable people like Hollobone to get into parliament. Even worse is thought that there can be sufficient morons in one constituency willing to elect a Kipper to represent them in parliament.
