Let’s have some more coverage of the Autumn Statement – at the very least it will help you appreciate your Christmas presents more (when you get them)! Here’s kittysjones:

Osborne’s austerity measures have achieved nothing, except deepening poverty, widening economic inequality, and destitution for the poorest and most vulnerable communities – and Osborne announced in his Autumn statement that we face at least four more years of it.

Austerity is not an economic necessity, nor is it temporary measure to balance the books, but rather, it reflects the Conservative’s long-standing ideological commitment to dismantle the gains and achievements of the post war settlement: public services, the welfare state and the National Health Service.

The plans, according to the Treasury spending watchdog, the Office of Budget Responsibility, also presume the loss of a further one million public sector jobs by 2020, a renewed public sector pay squeeze and a further freezing of tax credits.

With a shortfall in tax receipts set to increase the size of the deficit by £25 billion during the next parliament, the Office for Budget Responsibility said the only way Osborne could balance the books would be through shrinking the state to a level not seen since before the Second World War.

People have died as a direct consequence of the austerity cuts.

    Hi Mike,

If what you say is true, and personally I do believe you. Then what drives politicians to turn on the undeserving sick, unemployed, working poor, disabled and the elderly? Who indoctrinates them, Who radicalises them and therefore who is to blame or are they just born with pure evil intent? And what ultimately is the answer and how do the mentioned about protect themselves.

The problem most of us are having, including some respectable economists and us lesser mortals, is that the outcome of the last 4 years has been to worsen the govt finances considerably. It’s about time they were properly outed, because they could have ruined the UK finances simply by just giving it away to the rich, as they have done. They didn’t HAVE to crush the welfare state, that was just the ideological spite that gave them the most pleasure, and it revealed the absolute deep-seated hatred of the majority, those earning less than £150,000 a year, us “dog-end voters”. It’s pathological, and irrational, but almost palpable.

Never mind the BBC mildly reporting someone else’s figures drawing down the ire of Osborne. On Sky news today one economist was verging on the incandescent, about “nobody voted for this, no-one was asked to vote for this”. I think the sooner people woke up, and realised that Osborne & the Bullers really don’t care about the worse case scenario, (and it will be bodies in the streets, not just uncollected rubbish, no police, no coroners, no health care) then the words of that academic will finally sink in – nobody voted for the Fascists, but that’s what we got, thanks to the FibDems. I honestly wonder if we’ll be allowed elections next year. Seriously worried.
